I live in martinsville but plan on attending to watch. will i be able to watch or do i need to make special preperations to veiw the action. also as i have never attended a FT what am i to expect, should i bring my dogs to get them aquainted with the hussle and bussle?

Non competing dogs from a person who has not been to a trial would not be in the best interest of the championship IMHO. The dogs will not learn anything from the parking lot I am afraid. Go and have a great time and build on your interest, that is what I did the 1st time 25 years ago. You can watch but it will be ran from horseback so if you have a horse or able to get one, you will be able to view it all.

There will be a wrangler and there should also be a dog wagon you can ride to see things. Horses typically run $50/half day or $100/day but you'd need to contact the wrangler directly to know for sure and to reserve a horse. You can find the information on the AKC website in the premium.

I see that Matt Basilone is listed as a handler on a bunch of those dogs. I went to high school with a Matt Basilone.

Matt trains and handles my dog Bell, as well as Katie Tazza's dogs. He is from Pittsgrove, NJ.

Bell was apparently lost from the breakaway...Oh well.

I think they are running the non retrieving starting today...I assume they will get 9-10 braces in per day.

Based on the updates on the AKC site, it looks like they didn't start the 2nd series until today. 6 braces @ 45 minutes will take them most of the day; I'd doubt they'd start the non-retrieve but if they do the'd only get a few braces done.

With hour stakes you are looking at 7-9 braces a day, at least in the first few days. Depends a bit on course layout.

I think it's pretty cool that a Dual Champion won, and a Dual Champion was 4th!
Katie has worked hard for a looooong time with her GSP's to make them great compertive dogs in both the show ring and in the field. And Cutter comes from a long line of DC Vizsla's.

Congratulations to all who had dogs there to run, and especially to those who placed.

Now.... here's hoping my dog will remember his manners in the non retrieving stake!

Cloverdale farm is without a doubt the most awesome field trial venue I have ever trialed on. The grounds are simply magnificent and the facilities are without equal.

The only thing more wonderful than the farm itself is the warm and generous Leggett family who most graciously share their southern Virginia jewel with the rest of us.
