Who is usually there for Pro trainers? Is it usually a large trial?

Do you mean the Heart of America trial this weekend? I don't know who is usually there, but this year it looks like: Jim West, Tim Heiner, Keith Gulledge, Art Armbrust, Jon Hann, Charlie Rose. Maybe there are some in there that are pros that I'm not aware of.

The weather doesnt sound promising over there as I see they are expecting 4 to 6 inches of snow on sat before it warms up again Sunday. Hope everyone took warm clothes.

Your pup took first in the puppy or derby or both? What is it out of? I heard the weather was getting bad and thier were allot of scratches. Maybe next weekend will be better as thier is another trial there next weekend also.

We have two to three inches of snow on top of sleet and rain. It should melt off fast Sunday, it will become a muddy, muddy mess at Pony Express in a hurry.

The conversation was rushed, I belive one took first in puppy one took 4th in derby. Out of Rawhides direct deposit and my female Ginger who is out of NAFC Dixielands Bustin Loose Bell and Big Apple Satchmo both bred on the Rusty line. I will talk to Pat later and find out the specifics. He said a blizzard was moving in so not sure if they even ran Saturday.

FOR CLARIFATION... THIS POST IS JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION...

After some research of talking to a number of other judges and being on this site every day, I am appalled that a judge would get on this website and make comments (pro or con) about a certain dog they judged. The other judges I talked to said that they would NEVER do such a thing on a public forum, in fact they all said that the AKC discourages such activity (most did say they might talk about a certain dog amongst friends). I have no recollection of ever seeing another judge on this site (or others that I frequent) comment on how great a particular dog ran.
Now for my opinion.. I feel it is unethical for a judge to make such comments on a public forum. Granted they have free speech the same as I do, BUT their comments carry far more weight than mine. In making such a comment I feel they have the POTENTAL to influence others opinion or JUGDEMENT of that particular dog. I know that judges all try to be as fair and impartial as can possibly be, but the seed has been planted that this dog is SPECIAL.

Tim is more than 100% correct and if the comment was made by a judge, the person posting it does neither the dog or the judge any favor by posting. If the comment was made privately, that is where it should have been kept.

Right on Tim.

Dogs that get placements are the best dogs in the stake, at that trial, just the way that it is and the 1, 2, 3 or 4 placement should speak for themselves. Having judged quite a bit, I am more than happy to talk with a handleer about what I saw in his dog's performance. It is between the handler and myself and does not need to go anywhere else and most certainly not posted on an internet forum.

Jerry,

Here is the post I spoke of. It was made by the judge who judged the stake.

Thanks for your support of my opinion.

Tim~IMO You're right all the way. I think that when something like that happens it's unfortunate, but all you can really do is put that judges name on your list of those not to run under.

I would tend to think that it would influence the judgement of some, but not all. Those that get "star struck" for lack of a better word, are more than likely people that are not a major mover or shaker in the FT world. Those that know what to look for know better. Still... it's a bad deal.

Don't let it get to 'ya too much, they're only dogs.

*****Before everybody gets bent out of shape, I'm not taking ANYTHING away from Kix. Never seen him.*****

Doug,

You are right. AND this has NOTHING to do with Kix. I know of the dog but like you, have never seen him. And I know he is in great hands with the Gulledges. This is ONLY about a judges comments.

I apologize to appall you. First off Judging is not a great honor, it is a pain in the butt all you do is set your self up for critisism. Have you ever judged? While judging I hold no bias's or favors to handlers or owners. I like GOOD dogs. Say it how it is,HONEST, and help all the handlers, But I am a positive judge.

I have never seen Kix or know Kix owner But I will say it again Good dog and one to watch , As a compliment to his owner. If you were the owner you probably would not complain or be appalled. No shame mint for the other dogs it was a TUFF tight AA course Most were Lost

Now as a Pro I will say the dog that won the OGD and OLGD was a dog named Magic/Gulledge. I thought???? I had the OGD won until Charlie Rose ran one of his dogs (2nd place dog ?) and then I saw Magic/Gulledge run, I new and told others there is the winner. There was nothing else even close even my dogs!!!

Sorry to shake you all up

God Bless Jon Hann

Personally I didn't even pay the comments any mind other than to think the poster had seen a nice performance (didn't know it was the judge until Tim pointed it out). I've got more of an Am. Field background/experience and the field trial reporters in that venue are always soliciting, then often directly quoting, the judges comments regarding the dogs that performed under their judgement - both the pros and the cons. Often statements just like the one posted here are quoted in the field trial report and published for all to read. It was a comment regarding one performance on one given day, nothing more IMO.

Competing with our pride n' joy's requires thick skins!! Get 'em another day!!

There was nothing wrong with the comment in any way. The judge has every right to say whatever he wishes, pro or con ,about the dogs after the running is over. Most have the manners to not say anything negative, knowing the next time they see them it all might change.

Yea,,, gotta go with Doug again on this one. If anybody on the forum is now scared of that Kix dog because on that given day he did a nice job,, should probably stay home and keep training anyways,,,, gives ya a built in excuse not to put your money where your mouth is.

Kinda of funny this forum has a whole section on Brags to try to let people know is doing a good job and who are the dogs to look for in the future. People look at a judge at a higher standard,,,all it meant was he was probably one of two people that rode every base and watched every dog,, other than that an average Joe that was asked to give his opinion.

Keep doing that man and you're gonna need to start looking your car over real good before ya' start it!! And don't go the same way home every day!

Congrats to the participants and winners BTW!! Looking at the names in the winner's circle I'm sure there were alot of talented dogs under some great handlers there!
