Could be soon. Had her out this evening with Gage for a walk. He pointed a duck in the bushes and she backed for a good 10 seconds then slowly walked in. It was nice to see....

Wish you guys the best at the trial.

Bill,

Look forward to seeing you and the 2009 Hawkeye Champ. Weather looks like it is going to cooperate, lots of sun, food and possibly some adult beverages at the end of each day.

Yeah, I did handle Bandit yesterday, and it was actually my first time handling in an actual event, so It was quite an experience.

Second in the OAA was Timmy's Rusty Willy "Willy" handled by Gary Pihlstrom. Gary and I co-own two horses, and it was Gary who, 8 years ago, recommended the breeding to Ruth Blank's Timmy that produced Spot. Willy is a full littermate to Spot that I gave to Gary telling him the dog would make a field trial dog. Gary went through some personal stuff as a result of which Willy did not get much of a start. At about two, Gary gave him to local pro Greg Dixon for summer camp, and Greg returned Willy saying he could not break him of tagging. A couple of years later I hunted over Willie, and when I say "bootlicker" I mean right over the tops of the boots. About two years ago Gary decided to break Willie, and then ran him in a couple of trials. Willie suddenly found his legs, and I mean that dog can run. Six is pretty late in any dog's career to become a trial dog, but in the past year Gary has put some points on him, and he is now running AA. The nicest thing about the whole deal is that we now have a trialer who really knows his stuff, but who had drifted away from the sport a little, back in the fold. We will see what Gary and Willy can do in the next couple of years. All I know is, it is another dog we will have to run against at Eureka.

John

That is a great saga of a dog and a fella. Hope to get to know him and meet him in Kansas. There are truly not enough folks that come to Kansas as a group., will be good to have him

Is there any chance you guys will go to the Sharptail John? If you guys go, I will try to come out.

Gary told me he is going to Eureka. Course that was right after the trial, maybe he will feel differently in Oct. I doubt it though. Gary was a trialer for a lot of years. He started back in the early 80's. He and I kept our horses (different horses then) at the place of Dr. John Baillie, also a trialer. John won the National Amateur in about '81 or '82, and took third the next year. Anyway, we were a "gang," we all hung out together. They tolerated me even though I have a wirehair. I stopped going sometime in the 90's, but Gary kept it up for a long time. Probably close to 25 years. Nice that he has a dog to play with and is out at it again.

Gary is a lawyer, hence the lawyer joke from Chris. However, he is also a heck of a poker player, so mind your wallet at Eureka if he shows up. I would tell you how much he won last year, but the IRS might see the number. :D

Same dog. October's Pumkin. I looked it up, John won in 1983, so the third place would have been 84. I am telling you there must have been something in the water up at John's place, cause we used to get Nehring to hang around with us too. Other than "bleep" Walters, that's all the GSP Nat. Ch.,s in the state, so I would be a little worried about Pihlstrom and that dog. He has something up his sleeve.
