BRITTANY DELTA OPEN SHOOTING DOG CLASSIC
Nettleton, MS—A very competitive field of the top Brittany shooting dogs met in Mississippi at Prospect Farms for the second running of this premier event, The Brittany Delta Open Shooting Dog Classic. Hosted by the always affable Bud and Patsy Stevens and aptly managed by Field Trial Secretary Nan Crites, the event was a great success. The twenty entries were expertly judged by Burl Hicks of Smithville, MS, and Rick Crites of Northport, AL, on the expansive soy bean fields that make up this rather open, but demanding course. All dogs were shown on birds, a first in this reporter’s memory. Emerging as the winner was 2x Ch. Shady’s Tia Maria handled unerringly by Oklahoma pro Jimmy Berneathy for owners Clem and Marilynne Little. Pressing the winner with most impressive bird work was Johnson II owned by Vance and Leah Schlenker and handled by amateur Vance for second. In third was last year’s winner, Sunnyvale Cindy, owned by John Henderson and Harry Miller with Jimmy Berneathy handling her gallant effort to repeat. Ramblin Man owned by Pam Baird and handled by winning pro Al Garrow was closest to the winners.

REND LAKE FIELD TRIAL CLUB
Broughton, IL— The Rend Lake Open All-Age Stake commenced October 29, at Fornear’s Outland Ranch, Broughton, IL. Forty-one dogs were drawn with all competing.

Erin’s Southern Jewel took first for owner/handler Sean Derrig of Bannockburn, IL. Blue Steel Addition, owned by Georgian Roger Bowman and handled by Ray Warren, was second. Wiggins River Knot garnered the third for owner/handler Don Wiggins of Mt. Vernon, IL.

Advertised judges Terry Allen and Jim White presided over the first three days of running. Unfortunately Terry took a spill early the second day. He managed to tough it out through the third day of running. Reporter Gib Thomas stepped in for Terry with three braces running. Terry later reported several cracked ribs.
