Brenda
Look forward to seeing you it has been a long time. I won't be there until the start of the non-retrieving stake, can't get more time off work.
I should get to watch Fritz in the non-retrieving he runs the brace before Suzie.
I will get a couple of Tee shirts from you.
Good luck in the retrieving stake.
Laure
Your right 27th brace should be good will try to ride that one. There are a lot of good dogs running. I am sure Brenda is partial to the 24th brace as I am to the 25th brace.
Gunner
You are right the judging panel is good with respected judges.
The grounds are great as long as it does not rain a lot between now and then. It is very dry here in Va. if it rains the grounds will be a mud hole as the courses are on a river bottom.
I have not been there for a while, there are three one hour courses. The premium does not say if continuous or single course but knowing the people putting on the trial would say it will be a single course.
Good luck to all running in the Championship

Mary, do you have an idea of when that brace 24 will be running? We will be there to see the 1st brace Fritz runs on Mon a.m., we have to leave the hunt test on Sun and go over. Then we are going to visit some family in Va after his 1st run, then come back for the last run, just don`t have much judgement on when it is.

I do not have the final scheduale but it is my understanding that there will be a delay between the retrieving and non-retrieving stakes. My guess is Fritz will run on Sat. that is strictly a guess. I will let you know when I find out details.
I will not be there until the 30th. Where will you be in VA? I live three hours north of Danville.

We are home and even tho we did not win it was a super time. Got to meet Mary and she even loaned me her saddle, after the "torture" saddle the wrangler had me in I was thankful. Ray and Biddy won the Ret Stake with K Tazza taking runner up. I saw the first round on both dogs and they put down great runs. We were birdless in the Ret Stake. Then in NR we were at 40 with a super race going, the Red str pointed with Fritz backing, Red dog took out birds and a train wreck prevailed. Bad luck, I think the judge was liking us because he said it was a shame. Fritz is home now and we are glad. Time to reel him in some. How did it go for you Mary??? We had to hit the road so don`t now the outcome. What happened to you Bruce? You would have enjoyed riding some braces. It was amazing, we did not pay for 1 dinner the entire time we were there, plus open bar every nite. Beautiful place to run birddogs for sure. We even broke away and drove thru DC and saw the cherry blossoms, went up to the Chesapeake Bay and visited Ricks brother and had great sea food. We always have to combine vacation with birddogs!

Sounds like it was all worth while even with out a win. At least you competed. Glad some of it wemt well but too bad aome went poorly. Quess that why they call it a trial. Seems to me that's like a doctor's practice. Just wish we could get it right once instead of always trying.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Hey Brenda,
Glad to see you and Rick made it back home safe and had a good time. Shame Fritz got an unfortunate draw. I got tangled up with a bunch of Kennel related stuff that I really couldn't say no to, a rather prominent Gamefarm invited me up to see one my dogs work for future prospects of started dogs, all I had to do was show up and handle Percy. Open Bar, free food, Southern hospitality.... you wouldn't have been able to send me home with a team of horses.... unless of course you asked me to ride one
As embarrassing as it is to say, I've only rode horses a few times and they were trail horses.... you know, those horses that no matter which way you pull the reins are going to walk on the preset trail
I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with Rick, he answered a lot of thoughts I had, though I would have liked to put some birds down and let ya'll see Dalin's style and ethic. Will you be making it up this direction for any NSTRA events anytime in the future??

Hey Girl.... Started out with a dog brag, and ended with a smear it in your face good time...
Love posts like that !!! Sounds like you had a great time, and the upside surely out weighed the down side. Free food, open bar, good company, beautiful sites... get back in the real world. You've got dogs to train, and titles to win

Just got back a couple of hours ago I decided to avoid the race traffic and come home this morning. Last night we sat on the hill at our trailer and watched bumper to bumper traffic on Rt 58
It was great to meet Brenda and Rick, the shirts and hats they had were great. Brenda I will send a check, glad I could provide a comfortable saddle.
The grounds and facilities were fantastic. I would say the grounds are the best on the east coast. I have never run on better. The facilities were fabulous and the Legget family were great host. As Brenda said a great social hour every evening and free sponsered meals every evening, and fabulous lunches. As someone said this was a weight watcher trial, you watched the weight go on. The only negative was the heat and dust some of the dogs were running in 90 plus weather which made for some tough going and seperated the men/women from the boys/girls.
The judges were Art Cohen PA and Roy Pelton Tex.
Now to the results will try to post pictures later.
I had the privilage of scouting the fourth place dog.
FC/AFC Trace's Silver Twist (GSP male) Bob Erbe & Doreen Fernandez owners; Bob Erbe handler.
Third Place
FC Scattergun's Maggie (GSP female) Ed & Trudy Moody owners, Ray Dohse handler
Second Place
FC/AFC Shady's Be Sumbuddy (Brittany male) Delmar McCallister owner & handler
First place
Covey Up Johnny (Pointer male) Ray Knight owner, Jim Heckert handler
This was Johnny's third ever trial he now has two five point majors and only needs one win to finish since you must have wins at three trials under three different judges.
The first and second place dogs were braced together.

Forgot to tell you that Suzie did a nice job but was picked up at the three quarter mark for a bird problem. Had a stop to flush but the bird jumped and Suzie took two steps forward.
I am glad I went and that Jim Heckert ran my dog he has done a great job with her. Now we will be running in Open and Amt retrieving stakes she only needs those four points to finish she has two four point open majors one in Maryland in the fall and one at the GSP of South GA in Jan.

Delmar is a good friend and neighbor. Trains on the same farm where I help my partner raise and sell fruit, and run our dogs. Great guy and always willing to help. Used to work with him too before he retired... "pear"Second Place

Delmar is a gentleman and his brit is a wonderful dog to watch. That was a nice placement for him.
Ask him about the bird in the culvert. His dog went on point on one side of a crossing the bird ran into the culvert and Delmar flushed the bird as it came out the other side of the culvert. Talk about lucky.

Brenda, glad to see you had a good time, and you got a chance
to see how the level of competition goes up at the national events
vs the weekend trials. It sounds like your dog was dong well
before the tough spot got him.
I give you a ton of respect, for trying a format at the highest levels
in which is not your strength,I wish more would cross venues,we would have more understanding between the dog gamers.
Good luck back at nstra, and I hope you will run fritz in eureka
in oct,he sounds like a nice dog.Regrettfully I never did get to see him run,but I did ask ray about him at booneville, and ray had alot of nice things to say.

I think he even surprised Ray on his last run, it was more of an AA run, but it was impressive. Usually when he has one going like that is when he blows it away. He was lost for close to time about 15 min in and the Scout (did a great job) found him going away about 2 fields over and brought him back out. I will try to get a few pics up, there was an incredible photogragher there. We just have to get the shots. Mary, do you know where is has the pics posted?

Thanks Mary for getting those up. We will have to order some. Fritz`s brace is under Mon braces 1-3 pg 5. I love the shot on top right where the Scout is ready to turn loose. Also the one that looks like he will run over the photogragher. That guy took some super candid shots of people and their dogs. Someone told me his camera could take 100 shots a second. To Pear, Pretty funny!
