This year North Jersey Brittany Club is attempting to get some new individuals involved in AKC field trials. Most people find it unsettling riding a horse and running their dog at the same time. North Jersey Brittany Club will be holding a walking Gun Dog stake and a walking Puppy stake in hopes of finding new members. You do not have to own a Brittany to enter this trial. The trial is open to all pointing dog breeds.

Quick Summery
To enter the PUPPY STAKE your dog has to be at least 6 months of and AKC registered. A puppy stake is judged by two judges on the dogs desire to hunt, boldness, and initiative in covering ground and in searching likely cover. They should indicate the presence of game if the opportunity is presented. Puppies should show reasonable obedience to their handlers’ commands, but should not be given additional credit for pointing staunchly. Each dog shall be judged on its actual performance as indicating its future as a high class bird dog.
To enter the GUN DOG STAKE your dog must be steady to wind and shot. A Gun Dog must give a finished performance and must be under its handler’s control at all times. It must handle kindly, with a minimum of noise and hacking by the handler. A Gun Dog must show a keen desire to hunt, must have a bold and attractive style of running, and must demonstrate not only intelligence in quartering and in seeking objectives but also the ability to find game. The dog must hunt for its handler at all times at a suitable Gun Dog range, and should show or check in front of its handler frequently. It must cover adequate ground but never range out of sight for a length of time that would detract from its usefulness as a practical hunting dog. The dog must locate game, must point staunchly, and must be steady to wing and shot.
There will be many bird dog enthusiasts in attendance that are glad to talk and answer any questions you may have. Saturday night there is a free Pot Luck Happy Hour (food, drinks, and fun). If you plan on attending please just bring a dish.
