Entering regular and limited stakes?

Running up to an AKC trial and want to get my wife as many loops handling the dogs as she can. I'm just wondering if there is some unwritten "rule"/understanding/courtesy/whatever that you shouldn't put the same dog in the limited and regular stakes. ??

I think around here they call it an Open or Amateur stake, if I understand you correctly. There is no problem having an amateur handling in the limited/open stakes. If she can beat the pro's and the amateurs then more power to her!

AKC Limited Stake Rules
Limited Gun Dog Stake (Open and/or Amateur)
for dogs 6 months of age and over on the first advertised
day of the trial which have placed first, second,
third or fourth in any Gun Dog Stake, or a first
place in an Open Derby stake. A field trial-giving
club may give an Amateur Limited Gun Dog Stake in
which places that qualify a dog have been acquired in
Amateur Stakes only. The stake must be advertised
as such in the premium list and any additional advertising
that may be done.
First place in an Amateur Walking Derby Stake
qualifies the dog to enter an Amateur Limited Gun Dog
Stake only.
Limited All-Age Stake (Open and/or Amateur) for
dogs 6 months of age and over on the first advertised
day of the trial which have placed first, second, third
or fourth in any All-Age Stake, or a first place in an
Open Derby stake. A field trial-giving club may give
an Amateur Limited All-Age Stake in which places
that qualify a dog have been acquired in Amateur
Stakes only. When a club elects the latter option, the
stake must be advertised as such in the premium list
and any additional advertising that may be done.
First place in an Amateur Walking Derby Stake
qualifies the dog to enter an Amateur Limited All-Age
Stake only.

Thanks! The Am vs Open thing we've got figured out and we don't mind getting our rears kicked by either!!

Just trying to decide the regular stake vs limited stake entry deal - there's lots of little unwritten rules and understandings that I haven't figured out and don't want to show up entering something I shouldn't have!!

(the dog I want to enter is qualified for limited stakes and is neither FC/AFC)

Kind of a courtesy thing Doug that if the dog is finished there FC/AFC then some guys will just run em in the limited stakes, but for the sake of the new handler I would say run em all......
There are still quite a few around here that run finished dogs in the open and amateur stakes for points......

Oh by all means run em Doug.......the only unwritten rule was what I posted previously.....hard enough sometimes to get entries......

You can not run in a limited stake unless you have a placement in a previous adult stake or have received first place in a derby stake.

Since it has already been answered with the finished dog and new handler being the exception ..
There is also the "one more dog would make it a major or another point". And another exception is your dog being a gun dog and not all age. Let's say a certain breed club does not offer a limited stake (britt club) then by all means enter your finished dog.
Have fun. What trial are ypu headed to?
