I think the only prize money is in the futurity.

How generous of the AKC. $46,725 in entry fees and that for a payout!!!! Unreal!!! Good luck to all competing.

Don't believe AKC gets $46,725. Thge GSPCA will use much of it to cover their expenses would be my guess.

That's fine, but someone is making some big money. I don't know what expenses would run almost $50K.

I believe Ezzy is correct AKC gets very little if any of that money,GSPCA puts on the trial & collects entry fees it is only sanctioned by AKC.That's my understanding but could be wrong ?
Works about the same as AKC wk end trials only on a much bigger scale.

The pound of flesh AKC will get will be the $25 event application and the $3.50 on the dogs first entry and $3 on any subsequent entry.

You rent a ranch in Kansas for a week or so and see how much change you have.

On a kinder note, good luck to Sonny, Zoey and Kane from their lowbrow relations.

Vegas Mathiesen, I know you run in the American Field pointer realm and cannot understand why it costs so much. But, I wish you would do a little checking before you start making these statements. In most years, the event is lucky to break even. The cost of rental of the grounds, club house, birds, judges expenses and the list goes on. If it were not for sponsers the event would be in the red almost every year. So, please hold your accusations, nobody is making big money and you need to do a little fact checking before you make these kind of statements.

I think most everyone that has anything to do with trialing knows what the money situation is and how hard everyone works trying to find a way to pay the bills. We all need to keep hgelping or there won't be any trial in the future if we can't find a way to bring in more money.
There are just a few people who are looking for every chance they can find to knock the AKC even if they have nothing to do with the problem.

In round numbers, just access to the grounds (clubhouse and facilities included) is $500/day. And then there's parking. Try that on for the better part of 3 weeks. Birds? I have no idea on how many, chukar as I understand, the GSP club purchases. But they have to be $7-8/bird. The bird bill must be $5-6k.

Brooks, me running American Field pointer realm has zero to do with it. Do a little research yourself and spell my name right next time. As for costs, im well aware of the costs of running a trial. I was the president of a club for 5 years. It is very expensive getting birds, grounds and judges. Heck I remember you judging for us Brooks, and as a "member" you jammed us pretty good for a 1/2 hr stake.

If you take Wyndancer's numbers, you can see why I question it. $11,000 for grounds, $6,000 for birds, 8 judges @ $1,000 for $8,000, hotels for all of them for $2,000, trophies for $4,000. I know that doesn't cover it all by any means. But there is still over $15,000 in the kitty.

It doesn't matter, I was just wondering. I was just trying to help the pros and owners of the dogs out. I couldn't care less. I was just wondering but, it obviously struck a nerve.

There are some awesome dogs entered. Good luck to all of you competing. It would be a heck of an accomplishment to get a piece of it!

Vagas, did not mean to mispell your name, second let us not get into mudslinging and you are incorrect as to your former club. GSPCA does have a couple of calcutta's.

Ken, I hope you can make it up. It is quite a rush watching the young ones run. I will be doing my own handling this year... should be fun... BEST of luck to you and your Belle dog!! AND BEST of luck to ALL who compete. Right now we all have pictures of winning. That is what keeps us competing.

The GSPCA is an AKC parent club. They do a lot more than put on a field trial. Money from this event, along with money made at the National Specialty, membership dues and other contributions fund things like health research, breed seminars and Juniors programs. Events are not about winning purses, they are about supporting the breed.

BAD NEWS!!! Sonny suffered a leg injury Wednesday in a training exercise and will have to be scratched in both the Am and the AA at Nationals. The good news is it does not seem to be serious to the point of permanent. Should be OK in 4-6 weeks of rest. I will be staying home to take care of him and a good friend will run my Futurity dogs.

Good luck to all especially our Northeastern Representatives. Do us all proud on this side of the Delaware. Amatulli, Tazza and Lucey, hope you all "lay one down" for the books. Keep us informed. Can't wait to get there next year!

The GSPCA website will have the braces ran but no recap. It will also give call back dogs at the end. That's about it.

Odds are that Bonnie Hidalgo, Tom Maneely or Gary Sadler will be there. One of those will have a brace by brace scribe. Likely will trickle out as the ride, and then at the end of the day, compose and post.

That would be great. Then I won't have to be in suspense. I can know what my dog gets picked up for before she gets home :)

+10 Bill, One of the nicest things I've seen on this board. Nothing to read into, just a very classy statement!

Especially to my Buddy Joe Amatulli. Bring it back home to the East Joe!
