The PDF doesn't specify if any of the gun dog stakes are retreiving, so I assume none are, correct?

Looks like as good a Trial as any to start the new Year off with, suppose I'll see ya there

What's better will be not leaving 30 degree temps up here and coming down there to be smacked by 80 degree's like it was going to SC this past March!

Correct, we are not running any retrieving stakes. Long story short, we were going to do the OLGD as retrieving and shoot 1st bird on the course, but decided to keep the complications to a minimum on our 1st go round. The plan is to add retrieving gun dog stakes in the future.

Bruce,

Look forward to seeing you there. Average January high in Pinehurst is 50. I think MillerClemsonHD is going to do the cooking and Mo happily vouched for the quality of his pulled pork.

I may try to make this one if I can get the time away from home.

What are the grounds like? Tight, open, etc?

If Mo would run Lilly for me in the walking stake I'd be there for sure!

I think you should attend and bring a kennel full of dogs.

We havent finalized the course layout, however attached are a few possibilities. It will be a mixture of field edges and long leaf pine ecosystem. The grounds are approximately 1,500 acres so plenty of space for a dog to stretch its legs. Just need to link it together in the best fashion. We are going to run a few dogs on it again in December when it is cooler to determine the best layout.

im not familiar with akc trials. what is expected of the dog in the puppy trial? what is the age limit of the puppy class? what is the next level after puppy? are puppy half hour and the rest a full hour ? are these trials more for pro trained/ handeled dogs or can the average backyard trainer compete at this? sorry for all the questions but i dont think there are very many akc trials in central indiana. we have been running in club trials using nstra rules . its fun and id like to try some other walking trials.

I'm also wondering about all this and what are the age classification break points for "puppy" and "derby". My dog is almost 16 mths old right now. Have only tried hunt tests up here in Ontario and am curious about one of the trials. My dog is AKC registered.

Chris,

Looking forward to the trial. Chris is right, I can't promise anything else, but I will promise that we will eat good for lunch.

Bruce you should be ok coming down in January it shouldn't hit 80, but I'm not making any promises I've seen it happen. Even better is if we don't have the 50+ degree swing from the morning to late afternoon.

Jeff- I will start working on Mo Saturday so we can try to get him up there.

Just tell Mo that there's a Hook's resturant right beside the trial grounds and he will go :D

ok I read the rules but dont understand them. Never been to a trial. Both my llews would qualify for the puppy stakes per age. They ar FDSB registered does that count for AKC? I am interested but completely lost here. Love some pointers. Im reluctant to show up and feel lost and stupid.

Gotcha this is what had me confused. In BOLD below. Guess I will ot be attending, oh well!

No dog shall be eligible to be entered
in a licensed or member field trial unless it is an
eligible breed that is at least six (6) months of age
and is either individually registered with the AKC
or individually registered with a foreign or domestic
registry organization whose pedigrees are acceptable
for AKC registration and is registered with that
registry.
Dogs from eligible breeds that have been
granted limited registration or conditional registration
are eligible to enter Pointing Breed Field Trials.
Spayed and neutered dogs are eligible.

Agree with above comments Chris, it was a great trial. Congrats to all of those who placed, quite a few GDF members at the trial. There were probably quite a few folks at the trial that would never have guessed it was your first trial. You and Alyssa deserve a lot of credit for all the work you put in to make it happen. I imagine it will only continue to grow and improve and hopefully multiply into more than 1 trial a year.

Hopefully the success of trials like this one will help spur more growth of trials in our region. I have started the work to get a club going in SC in hopes of having some trials in the near future.
