Re: NGSPA..Booneville
I spoke with Mike Aldrich last week. Tentatively he told me Feb 25th. I needed to know to schedule time off, so I called him for the same info. The order of stakes is again tentatively....Amateur, All Age, Futurity, Open. I hope that I'm not speaking out of school from what he told me, but again I'm using the word tentatively!

They still gonna draw the night before? Never understood that. I would think that Am. entries could go up if they didn't have to be there the night before. If they even drew 2 nights before then people could make plans accordingly. Just a thought.

You have to send your entries in early, I think it is two weeks ahead of time, but not sure about that. I do know in the past there was a cut off date for entries. But, the drawing is not until the night before. That is how has been done in the past. Mike can give you more info on that.

It just seems silly to me. Why not have the drawing 2 nights before? Then am. trialers would have a chance to their plans in order. Just an idea.Brooks Carmichael wrote:ElhewPointer wrote:They still gonna draw the night before? Never understood that. Re: NGSPA..Booneville
I agree to an extent, but the entry at Booneville is usually small enough, like hour NGSPA region and species championships, that being on site is not much of an issue. For example, the amateur begins on Saturday and might go til Monday. If it were a week, like GSPCA Nationals Amateur then it would be a concern. Personally, I think entries should be due 2 weeks prior, drawing the night entries close, if you have scratches then you move them down just like AKC weekend trials. For amateurs, planning would be a little easier, maybe.

Re: NGSPA..Booneville
One week before would certainly seem reasonable for us Am's. I have a 1500 mile drive and only have limited time off from work so if I knew that I was running on Mon, it could save me a day or two on possibly both ends. So for those of us that are traveling that kind of distance for a "National Event", it would be nice to take that into consideration to make it easier for us to plan. BTW the entry forms are on line at the Website.

Re: NGSPA..Booneville
It is not a big problem with the draw the night before the start of the stake. When I would go I would just call Jean and ask here how many were entered do the math and know when to take days off. The only difference now is you need to call Aldrich and ask him how many are entered in each stake.

Re: NGSPA..Booneville
Hey Crest,
Still doesn't do me any good. I call on Fri and get first brace on Sat. I'm Scr***d. Therefore I am forced to leave on Thurs to get there by Fri night and possibly not be braced until Mon. As a first timer, I certainly want to ride and take as much in as possible, but I have futurities and I'm hoping to run in the Open as well.
I know it sounds like alot of whining, but again, it is a "National" event and it would be nice to see it possibly change in the future for the Amateurs that have to travel that far to make it. Most Amateurs don't have the kind of time off or the resources to go to Booneville, Eureka, The Sharptail, Pheasant, and many of the other Championships. It is great that they are on the weekends for us, but the distances are extremely prohibitive for those of us on the East Coast. Even worse for me, (sounds selfish), but I'm on the Canadian Border of Upstate NY which is 6 hours North of Buffalo. As it is, I have to travel 6 -8 hours just to make weekend trials. It's only 9 degrees today so some birdwork and roading this afternoon will do.
As I said earlier and it seems to be a common thread on this post, hopefully they can consider changing it in the future.

The Chronicle lists the Amateur to start on Feb. 25th. Then the Futurity, All Age, then Open Shooting Dog.
The AKC Pointing Breed Gun Dog Nationals at Ames Starts on Feb. 27th-Mrch 10th.
People will haft to travel back and forth, and there will be some leeway on allowing people to schedule around the AKC Nats. NGSPA will allow for travel time from Ames.

Since I no longer take The Field, and there is nothing on the NGSPA site, what are entry fees for each stake???
