I would like to go. However, I got screwed up with Holidays and when the world would get back to work. I am forced to wait until tomorrow to send in my entry. Not sure if I will get it in before they hit the 132 entry limit.

I have my confirmation.. I can't wait. I won't be able to stay the entire time, but Im hoping I get to ride for a couple days around the time my pup runs.

it looks like they may reach their limit of 135 entries by this weekend.
If anyone has a dog to enter and you haven't done it yet, I would still send it in. There will be scratches I'm sure, so get on that waiting list.

Those of you going, or have a dog entered with a pro, good for you. I ain't going.

Let's say you get drawn second brace first day, and you have a dog "knock it outta the park"....They even post him "dog of the day" even though that's no guarantee of making the second series. So anyway, now you have a dilemma, or maybe not. But you are going to have to wait, for maybe 60 more braces to complete. So you wait, thinking, "Hey, I might make the 2nd series." But one of two things happens 1) you don't, even though you were dog of the day. or 2) you do make the 2nd series.

1. I'd be riding every brace I could to see what i'm up against.
2. If I went there i'd be there for the long haul.

I guess it was because it closed when it reached maximum entries. No use in waiting. Travel plans should be easier for those attending.

Nice selection of breed representatives! Good luck to all! I'm betting on a Brittany to win. Are they going to let them on the steps for the photos? :)

I hope not. Even if it is a pointer that would win. IMO, only the big dance winner gets to go to the steps of the big house.

I was surprised that they closed and drew it this early too. But it sure is nice to be able to make travel plans. Of course, things can change, bitches in season, scratched dogs etc. So, like all trials, it will only give you an idea of when you will run.

Hoping for decent weather for everyone there! Gonna be a tough one to get a piece of!

Premium states limited to 132.....didn't fill. The premium states entries close January 14th, that's when they close....full or not.

Gotta give ya' the rolly eyes...sorry man, hate to do it.

124 dogs seems like a pretty big dance, 62 twirls around the dance floor - I'd say the king or queen of the prom at this deal probably earned the honor of a championship photo whereever the heck they want!! Enjoy all and good luck!

Plus a 2nd series for only 12 out of those 124, puts a whole nother spin on it! Gonna be a really tough call to figure out those 12 dogs.
Maybe if they don't let the winner on the actual steps, they will allow them to stand in front of them? Or just near them? Can we have the steps in the photo?

Heavens knows... we wouldn't want to mess with hallowed ground!

What I noticed you have most of the pointing breeds entered, which is a nice surprise. You have some of the best dogs in the country entered. It will be one great championship.

I sure hope its a brittany on the steps. My brittany! Looks like she got drawn late enough that I might get to ride the callback as well. I really don't know how the judges are going to decide though. Thats a lot of Field Champions to weed through.

To bad a lot of the best GSP's in the country will not be in it. They'll be at Boonville.

I HOPE they don't pose the dog that wins on the steps!!!!

Too bad many of the best Brit GD's won't be at Ames either. They will be with their Pro's at the ABC U.S. Open sitting on a string doing nothing. As far as I know only two brit Pro's are showing up at Ames, the rest will be at the U.S. Open. 8)

I think this is going to be a good event even with some of the breeds not being fully represented by the best this year. I wish I could make it. I hope the tradition of posing a winner on the steps is continued even if it is a different format and organization. It is part of what makes a win at Ames a little more special. JMHO.

Pam,

The "Big Dance" normally refers to the National Championship which has been running at the Ames Plantation since 1915.

Being self employed presents dilemma for me...Do I take the time and watch the AKC GD Ch? Or take the same amount of time and watch the Big Dance? I'm thinking the Big Dance.

Dan, I know what the big dance is. I have friends who go and Marie's sire, dam, and full sister are FDSB registered. What I was referring to was the earlier argument about some people not wanting the winner having its picture taken on the steps.

Heck I'm just happy to have her paws running on those hallowed grounds! We had such a good time at theNational I thought I would put out the offer.

How is Shade's eye? Pearl had the same thing a few years back.

Well, since I mentioned it first, I certainly thought it was obviously in jest. Considering the response, I hope they haul the whole lot of them up there for a group photo.

Doing great! I doubt most people would notice anything with it (if I look hard enough I can see the tiny spot where the surgical glue is.) Can't wait for the cone to be removed so I can take her out again and not have to see the sad eyes!

April had a great time at the Nationals, and we are hoping to both go next year! Have fun at the GD Championship and GL!!

Its JMO but I hope they don't. Has nothing to do with it being AKC. They hold other trials there and they don't let them take pictures there. Its about tradition. Almost 100 years of it.

Ray Dohse lost Dee on point in first brace, and flushed birds when he found her with tracker burried in the briars and evergreen trees. :(

They are there, just deeper than most of the dogs are used to. Then you haft to find them on point.

Just kidding, But I think thats why the pointer guys breed for almost white dogs.

How do they know they are not in the second series? Judges won't make that decision till the last dog runs. Did the judges give any indication that they were not in?
