Our local club is having a Buddy Hunt. They are having Chukars and Quail mixed. My question is what shot size do you use for this mix?

12 Gauge o/u. Alittle unsure what is really needed for Chukar. Never shot one.

7.5 is what I would use for a 12. Trap shot basically.

7.5 will work nicely for this mix.

I would use 7 1/2's also, especially on planted birds over dogs. That size shot is coarse enough to kill chuckar cleanly, but not so coarse as to blow apart a quail. 8's would probably be OK, but that is getting a tad small for a chuckar that is out there a bit.

But then I generally shoot a 20 ga. and a 12 has quite a bit more shot.

Winchester AA's should do just fine I should think.

The birds you will be using are no where close to The chukar we have out here ( NW). So if you can use lead than 7.5 will work fine. If you can't use lead than I would use 6's. Are culb will be using Chukar this year and the grounds we use is WMA so we have to use non-toxic and our club raised shot size to #6. Used to be #7 till we started using Chukar. In the passed when I would go out and clean the feild the day after a trial I would use #6 steel. I guess you could use #7,7.5, or 8's. No big deal on pen birds.
