We had a 12 year old girl working on her AKC Junior Handler award--Her dog was working on it's junior hunter title. AKC will give the junior handler a certificate for completing a title on a dog. The pass on the dog has to be signed by the judges and HT sec and sent in to AKC along with the test results. We have had a couple of boys do this as well but they were around 14?. We have also had an 8 year old boy handle a dog with his grandfather walking in the gallery. The kid could hardly pull the hammer back on the blank gun to fire it--it was kind of a circus  --dog didn't listen to well to kid, dog pointed quail, quail flew badly, kid had problem getting gun to fire, dog caught bird, kid rasseled dog for bird, kid won, dog passed, kid got ribbon, big smile--kid and grandpa. It was very entertaining but not real quaility dog work
