I had never heard of that organization before. Have you been to them before?

I'm on the volunteer Board. Scout got the points for her Am Ch status this spring and has her first placement in an Open trial too. Birds are shot and retrieved for points towards a score, not "judged". The organization is only 2 years old, started by a group of disgruntled NBDCA folks so scoring is similar. Strong issues for seperation from NBDCA were the "administrative" monies, DOY as a competition between pointing and flushing dogs, and members only allowed to "suggest" rule changes. UFTA takes ALL of the monies from sanctioning and membership fees that is not spent on the web site and rule books and puts it in the purse for the Nationals. Nobody gets paid for the work of running the organization. We started with just pointing Open, Doubles, and Amateur divisions and will start the flushing divisions this fall. Winners from the flushing and pointing divisions will never compete, apples and oranges. Every year, any active member can present a rule change which is voted on by the members. Other differences include no penalty for calling "safety" on a risky shot, Doubles is two handlers and two dogs with each handler required to shoot 1/2 of the birds (over either dog)and birds can not be shot unless pointed (flushed by the working dog, not accidentally by the handler for flushing div). Any dog that runs in the required number of trials can compete in the Nationals at this point. May look at restrictions by placements if the field gets way too big but right now, no requirement to even place before then. Active in OH, IN, KY, GA, NC, SC, AL and looking to start in TN. Purses for 2003 Nationals were $19,000 for Open, $5,000 for Amateurs, and $4,200 for Doubles. Open paid to 10th place, Dbls and Am to 5th place.
