2014 NGSPA National Championship

Amateur drawing should be tonight.

Good Luck To All Participants and Be Safe.

Number of dogs entered in each stake:

Amateur Shooting Dog: 40
All Age: 20
Futurity: 34
Open Shooting Dog: 48

This is the most that will run, but the actual number run will probably be a few less. Some may not be able to make it for some reason or another.

They will run 6 braces a day for the hour stakes, and 12 per day for futurity.

Best of Luck to ALL PARTICIPANTS!!

Some info passed on from Mike Patric at the trial:

They are using all 3 courses. Cover is good. The state has done some nice improvements. Good weather so far!

Plane ticket for one of the Shooting dog judges is for Sat. pm.

So things will be drawn out over the week.

They will finish and only run last brace of Amateur Tuesday am then take the rest of day off.

Start All Age Wed. am and finish on Thursday.

Run Futurity on Friday and Sat.

Start the Shooting dog on Sunday to conclusion.

This is what I heard. May be subject to change due to weather and such.

My Bad.

I was writing and listening and got the running order of All Age and Futurity switched.

The Futurity is Wed.-Thur. and the All Age is Fri-Sat.

Sorry for the confusion on my part.

Weather is very nice. A little warm this past Saturday at 73 dF, but it cooled over the weekend so temps are in the 50's. A little rain in the forecast, but the grounds could probably use a little for a change, the gallery is putting up some dust. Grounds are quite dry for AR in the spring. Just about ideal dog weather and the trial is going very smoothly.

Heard from a owner of a Furturity dog that ran yesterday that his dog was 1 of 3 dogs that had bird work yesterday.
Not certain how many braces that were ran yesterday, but that is not much bird work.

For those that still have dogs to run, best of luck. Looks like there is still plenty of room at the top!

First day of the futurity running was cold with temps starting out in mid 40's but got colder during the day ending up windy and mid 30's by end of the final brace. The second day was down right cold but was sunny. All water troughs were frozen over with a couple of trailers had frozen lines. The temp. was at 16 degrees and the sun was out when the dogs broke away at 8 a.m. Great for some dogs not so great for judges and handlers.

Thanks! We're pretty happy about that one. Matt also owns the stud on Jax which makes it all that better. Dan is doing a great job with both the young guns.

I always liked 2 the best it has better edges and flows better. 3 is the hard luck course and hard to win on. I am sure 1 still has the barking dog at the house.

Running order from Hi-Tailyn

Running was suspended during the first 15 min. of the 5th brace due to lightning.

Running will resume in the morning with the 5th brace

It was a Icy mess today at Booneville. Called off entire day and plan on starting at 1:30 Tues with brace 5 on course 1.

I was out there (just to show how stupid we really were) yesterday with the afternoon braces. Thunder the whole time riding to start line. Thunder off and on during first brace. Started second brace and were out 10 min and started to see lightning. FC Eshods Uprising "Ryder" found to the front on point, and while flushing lightning hit somewhere very close. Made those of us right there crouch as low as possible on our horses. Ray Dohse told judge Heath that even if were going to win the NC it was not worth getting killed over. We picked up dog and put in dog wagon. We all snuck our way back to camp. About a hour latter a local Brittany guy told one of our guys that his horse was just struck by lightning and killed at his house not 1/2 mile from where we were on course 2.

While it rained all day, the dogs found 18 coveys in the 5 braces. There a couple good shows, but the rain definitely hampered the dogs and the viewing of their performances by judges and gallery.

They planted birds Tues. am after the 2 day delay from ice.
Didn't replant Tues. pm like they had for the rest of the trial.
Wed. dogs were either birdless or one find only. Heard skunk was out there spreading his love smell on course 2.
Have not heard how Thur went.
Birds with bad weather and lots of thick cover are hard to find sometimes.
There were some very good dogs to run Thur and Fri.

Should have a winner by lunch Today.

Mine was one of the ones that ran Wed and went bird less, on to the Great Plains next month.

Never should have started Open Shooting Dog that Sunday afternoon with it thundering the half hour before the afternoon braces started, then to be caught out on course 2 the farthest away from camp and haft to ride horses all the way back in the lightning.

There should be more common sense in charge. Not the run at all cost, even if you get struck by lightning. It was not fun ride back to camp.

A horse got killed not 1/2 mile from where we were on course 2. It could of easily been one of us as the horse.

There needs to be some guidelines set in place. Not just what the judge thinks. Even with the lightning strikes right on top of us, one of the judges wanted to continue like it was no big deal. Being tough is not the point.
