NAVHDA Utility Test

Post by grant » Tue Sep 07, 2004 1:40 pm

Can anyone tell me what is required of a dog during the Utility Test? I couldn't find any info on the NAVHDA site. If I missed it, can you send me a link?

grant,,,the best way to learn about the ut test is to attend a handlers clinic,,,,,they will go into great detail on how and why a dog is judged,,,and you will judge dogs at the handlers clinic...
That being said,,,the ut test is a few parts all in one day,,,a duck search,,,a drag,,remaining at the blind,,,heeling through stakes,,
a marked water retrieve of a duck,,and the field work,,where all birds possible will be killed, and the dog is expected to retrieve to hand,,,
The dog will run the field alone,,,no brace work...
No style points,,,obediance is the key,,along with a very nice retrieve..
with extra commands hurtiing your score...
Your prize is determined by your lowest score in any one area,,,
with a 0 to 4 system,,with a 4 the best....
I could go on all day about the possibities,,but this is a short view...
......

Grant,
It should be on the NAVHDA website. You could try our site here in Texas, I know we have the info.

If not let me know.

Grant,

Larue summed it up very well.

The Carolina Chapter is having their test on Dec 3-5 if you interested in observing a test. That is probably the closest chapter to northern GA.

I still remember the first time I observed a NAVHDA Utility test. I got hooked once I saw the duck search. Getting a dog ready for a Utility test is a lot of work, but it is well worth the investment.
