NGSPA National Champion

Post by Wagonmaster » Wed Feb 28, 2007 9:09 pm

The 2007 NGSPA National Champion is Willows on the Spot.

No runner up was named.

Spot had two finds. The first was handled by Pat Waresk, riding in the gallery, after borrowing a blank gun from the bracemates handler, John Steger, both Spot's handler and scout being far away as the two dogs in the brace had split up. The find was located by the part of the gallery for the other dog.

The second find had the dog buried deep in a brush line. Scout, gallery and handler all rode past. The dog wagon, bringing up the rear, found the dog on point. They tried to get our attention but at first could not. The driver of the dog wagon, Larry McAnally of the Ark. DNR, later reported that after the dog had been on point for some time, the quail walked away. The dog self relocated to the front of the running quail, pinned em, and that is where he was when they finally got handler's attention.

Spot finished going away at time.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

It will be some time, perhaps years, before I descend as far as Cloud Nine.

Yes, I admit it.

John

That is just great news!!! Made impending snow storm up this way much easier to deal with.

Congrats to you and Spot on such an accomplishment.

I remember the first time I took Boomer over to Dixon's for either just a visit or maybe for a Texas trip. We got done taking Boomer out and he then took out a young gsp that he told me then "watch this one, he's going to be special"... you know who that was. Of course you know him, the new NGSPA AA National Champion!!!

John, A BIG CONGRATS to you Eldon and Spot. I guess Spot's performance backs up the claim that to win there you have to have a real bird dog that will penetrate the heavy cover in search of birds.

I remember you joking with me before Erueka, that "If we weren't in it, well then, it's all politics" Well not this time! Way to go my friend, glad for you guys! :D

We missed you all Rodger. Big Futurity, I guess. OSD and ASD are about the same. AA down maybe four dogs. More trailers in the parking lot than I remember from last year. Big party. You gotta get Hud there, it is his time.

gunner, it is an honorable pursuit. Happy to be in the permanent book now. Some day they will say I remember that dog. Nice dog. Whatever happened to the guy that owned him?

the question is who owns who? :D

in all seriousness, there is alot of field trial history among his progenitors, better breeders than me did all the hard work. I just came along and got lucky.

John,

What is his breeding? He looks a lot like a male that I sold a few years ago that was out of Creaney's old Willie dog and a Nicki Von Blitz bitch.

I owned Spot's mother, bought her from Rob in 1996. She was out of that old Willie dog and a Lee Struebing bitch, Heidi v. Struebing. Heidi was in turn out of Bob Merkel's Luke dog, the son of Rusty and Leipchen. The sire was Ruth Blank's Timmy, so basically, alot of Moesgaard and Rusty, and midwestern bred.

The best part is that bitch was the Reba of this thread, Spot is her son:

Spot is a smiler. Talked to Rob last week for the first time since I bought Reba, turns out Willie was a smiler too.

I did the breeding, but the credit should go to those people who did the hard work in years past.

John,

If there such a thing as doggie heaven, I'm sure Reba is up there smiling down on her son now.

I couldn't be happier for you and Spot !!

Tom, we will have to get together for dinner or something when I get Spot back for his summer break, just for old times sake, and you can meet him. He would like you.

John

To the victor go the spoils, I note that you said they were finding a lot of birds. Hope so, ,ime is yet to run and will need some birds to get a good shot. If they are there he will find them.

No runnerup and can you say why? Did you get to ride the brace and see the whole deal? Hope so.

I will have to say that if you are at Great Plains that you and I will have to go and celebrate somewhere. This could not have to a better pair.

Yes Jerr, we will have to finally meet in person. If things go as planned, which they rarely do, I will be at Bechtel most or all of the week. I am driving down to pick up a horse that Pat Waresk has taken from a rank maniac to the real deal in about three months. The last time I rode that horse he tried to kill me, then I rode Spot's brace and two others at Booneville no problem. Maybe we can go to the Chinese (for everyone else, that is a restaurant everyone goes to in a town near the Bechtel Ranch).

I am not sure why they did not name an RU. An awful lot of dogs did not make it around in the tough stuff at Booneville. That is a heck of a place to run an AA. Rich Barber ran a bye dog in the last brace that started slow but then was really doing it. All he needed was a bird, but no bird. Ronnie Sale ran Silver. I watched the first half of the brace and the dog looked really nice, then Bobbi Richardson and I took the Course three cut off to get home. Ronnie got the dog around and I think he had a find, but maybe did not have that going away driving finish. I don't know, did not see the end. Moon got around also the day before Spot ran, did not see the race, was still in an airplane getting there, so don't know what happened.
