Anyone going to Cedartown Nov 13-14?

Post by Greg Jennings » Thu Nov 04, 2004 8:19 pm

I'll have the whole family up at the Gordon Setter Club's hunt test in Cedartown Nov 13-14.

Is anyone else planning to attend?

Try this:

http://www.akc.org/dic/events/search/in ... 2004079850

I don't have a premium yet. I entered with the generic entry form from the AKC site:

http://www.akc.org/pdfs/AFN999_1003.pdf

Call Carla for details.

Hunt tests are a very good, family atmosphere. Grant, if your bitch is steady till shot and will back long enough for you to collar her, you might consider skipping Junior Hunter and entering Senior Hunter.

If anyone has any questions about hunt tests, feel free to PM me. I'm not an expert, but I'll do my best to answer.

Brenda Roe is quite the expert. I know she hangs out here and would be happy to answer questions.

But, dang, it's Thanksgiving weekend. I just don't have enough spousal brownie points to make that happen.

I'll have to catch the one in the Spring.

The Weim club HT is a possibility, though. I gunned at one of theirs last year and had a good time. Terri and Chris Miller are nice folks.

Best,

Hi Brenda,

Which one? I didn't end up going to the VCMA's practice test.

I'm going to the Gordon Setter Club's this coming weekend. We're stoked! The only trouble we're having is with backing. If he doesn't perk up, I'll be sending you a red dog for a little corrective action.

Hi Brenda,

I mis-handled Nav in our last test. We didn't pass Saturday, but we did Sunday. So, we're still working on our last leg of JH.

I'm hoping to get the last leg of JH this Saturday then bump up to SH on Sunday.

My general strategy is to train to MH and get SH along the way. If I'm there to do it (keep in mind that he's really big running for a Vizsla), I can quietly whoa him then request to collar him so he can't possibly interfere with the other dog.

I made a backing dog silhouette and have been working it in conjunction with a launcher in the back yard. He doesn't seem to recognize the silhouette it as a dog. I guess my artistic skills are lacking.

I sure would like to hear any ideas.

Thats easy Greg! You just got a GSP pup right? You can rely on the GSP pup to remain steady! Have Nav. back him. Thats probably the way it will end up anyway! ahahahahah

Just a joke =) sort of.... :D

Gunner is going to be one fine bird dog. I can't say enough good things about him. He's bold, independent, curious, big-running, points and backs naturally and he's really smart. Really, really smart.

Here is a picture: http://www.gundogforum.com/album_mod/up ... edc7cf.jpg

This is the 2nd time that he came across quail scent. He stood frozen a while then took a step. That's why his rear foot is up and my daughter is tight-lining him.

Let me know some time when you want to get together to train. I can come over there or you can come over here. I have a nice place and a source of birds.

Greg you can Whoa him in Sr`s as he sees the dog. You just hav to keep up with him or try to keep him in. It`s amazng you much Gunner looks like the Fritz male I have, Chance. Yours is whiter tho.

Hi Brenda,

I'll do my best to keep up with him....sure wish I could use a 4-wheeler. He's a fast, far-ranging boy.

Gunner is absolutely amazing on any number of fronts. You should have seen him backing "Fred" the backing dog silhouette today.

Hi Grant,

Gunner is amazing, but it'd be asking way too much for him to be SW&S at 5 months.

Gunner has more point than Nav and a better nose. Nav, OTOH, has the faster race and I think will always be wider.

Best,
