Anyone know how the grounds in Portage WI are?

Post by Gsp On Point » Fri Aug 24, 2007 6:57 pm

Hoping to get some information on how the grounds are. I heard they are flooded and this weekends trial was canceled. Entered in an AF pointer trial there next weekend and than the Badger 500 limited that the Four Lakes GSP club puts on. Hoping the water recedes and we are able to run.

Anyone else planning on going the Four Lakes trial?

I haven't decided whether I am going to Four Lakes yet. My dog is coming home from NoDak this week, so I will see how he looks before I send in the entries.

If you hear anything about the grounds condition, let us know.

I will get out there this week sometime, but I would not be surprised if the
pointer trial was cancelled, along with the 4 lakes.

My intel tells me that they feel the upcoming trials will proceed.

If the WiDNR states "no trials", then no FT's. But if the clubs pull the plug, they haven't trialed at Killdeer Plains.....now that's wet.

I ran in the pointer trial 3 or 4 years ago,we could only use half of the course, the rest was under 2 or 3 feet of water.
After that they cancelled all trials and training off horseback for the fall, and when you are useing public grounds, the grounds must come first.
So I have no idea what will happen the rest of the fall at pine island.
I know my grounds are as wet as I have seen them, with standing water all over,in places I do not see normally,in fact our walking trial could have an issue with getting the crops out in time for the walking trial.
We will just have to wait and see,how it shakes out.

Steve,

Did the pointer trial get canceled?

I suppose I should give Four Lakes a call to see what is going on next weekend.

Last I heard they (Four Lakes GSP club) will be making a decision on Monday whether the trial next weekend will be cancelled and yes the pointer trial did get cancelled.

Cross your fingers for no rain, a little wind, and some sunshine.

I ran at pine island yesterday, some of the grounds are wet,but mainly the
southern portion where the ditch's are.
I dont know about the all age course,as mowing was tough and the grass is very high out there.
We had a number of trialers out there, and had a good day of dogwork,it looks ok to me,but I am not calling the shots.

It sounds like the trial is a go. They are going to have the drawing tonight.

Regarding the Four Lakes Trial.

Does anyone know the order in which the stakes will be run?

Will Derby be run on the course near the clubhouse?

Thank you.

Can't remember all of the placements , that were told to me, but I believe Clarks Abbie took a second or a third, Staci won the AA, Alischa took a second I believe, Hellers pup took a third in puppy. I'm sure someone will straighten me out some. I believe Dennis Brath had a placement in every stake. Sounded like a good weekend for all , glad to see it ran.

OK,

Here's the skinny. Dennis Brath handled Abbie to a 2nd in the Open Gun Dog. Hooray, a 2pt 2nd place. Now the crappy news. Abbie was called back for 2nd place in the Amatuer and I blew it on the call back. There went a 3pt 2nd place.

The ups and downs of FT.

2 Hoorays for Abbie. Hey you made the call back Clark, that is something in itself. From what I have heard she did a really nice job out in the prairies as well. good luck with the rest of the season, oh yea 1 more pass for Jill and she will have a JH title for her mom.
