The club will be hosting a 4 day trial, December 28-31, 2007 at the Ken B Farm near Leesburg GA.
Open Puppy, Derby, Gun Dog, Open and Amateur Limited Gun Don and an Amateur Gun Dog. (No retrieve) in any
The weekend trial will be followed by a 1 hour Continental Shooting Dog Championship on the same grounds.
I will be judging the OGD and my judging partner will be Rick Heller from Wisconsin. We judged a stake together last year.
I encourage all that can to come and get out of the cold for several days and have some fun. Went down there the last 2 years and Wayne and Trish James do a great job of putting on the trial.

The Continental Championship that they run is a one hour deal on the best quail ground I have been on. It is a lot of fun and will be a good trial. The 4 day trail is very good as well. Rick Heller and I are judging the Open Gun dog and that will be a lot of fun.
Come on down out of the cold. They accomodate very well.

Are the open trials open to all breeds? What about the continental?
What is an open - limited trial?
Thanks

I've always seen "Open Limited" with respect to a stake at a trial, not a whole trial.
Open means that it is open to both professionals and amateurs.
Limited means that it is limited to dogs that have wins in broke dog stakes plus, possibly, certain other conditions. It's a good place for dogs that have already earned their field championship.
Best regards, Greg J.

Pepper, I read on the website that the trial is full already! I know Matt was going to run my dog down there...hope he got the entries in. My dog is running in the Continental Shooting Dog as well. Wish I could go down but at least my dog will be there.

They have gone to 4 days and still fill up. Ray called this morning and said that they had 170 dogs and did not have my entry yet, since I am going a long way to judge the committee wanted my entry. They already had it just did not realize it.
Will be good to see Matt, nice fellow.
Pepper
apparently you have a pretty nice dog.

Looks like there are over 40 dogs in the gun dog. 4 days and a lot of running and last year the birdless dogs were not in evidence. They find em and have to standem to make any money.
Will be great fun.

Is that Matt Basilone? Wonder if he will be running the Weim, Izzy.

Yes, it is Matt Basilone. I was only aware of one Weim he had and that was Lilly (O-Ray Bowman).
Spoke to Matt and he said he did get my entries in so that is good!

Duh I am thinking of Lilly! I was having a Senior moment.
Matt's a good kid. He let me borrow one of his horses to plant birds for the Weim field futurity in MD last April.

Leaving here christmas morning and driving to Georgia for a 12 days of relaxation, I have never been to a trial that I will have so little to do. May plant birds for them a bit.
Anyone down that way, come on by and join in the fun.

Will do, looking foreward to it. I think I am coming home after the Derby and Rick is staying for the Continental. We have to get over to Dawson (Ido not think it is far) to eat at my favorite oyster and frog leg hole in the wall.

Got in tonite from S Ga. Finally got to meet "Pepper" and really enjopyed the visit. Update, lots of delays for RAIN, yes I said RAIN! Thought it did not rain in Ga!!! Trial did not start until 3:00 yesterday! But, I know Ga needs it, so cannot complain. Got a call on my way home saying my Wire took Second in the Derby. I am tickled with that. They postponed the Continental Trial until next week due to delays going to run them into the GSP Club of Atl Trial. So, good luck to you guys!! I must have the S Ga crud. chills and fever, going to bed!

Brenda, congratulations on the Wire!
We are also having rain and LOTS of it!! It put me way behind on working dogs this weekend.

I'm planning to get out and work on Wed morn and Thurs. Hopefully things will be dried out by then as I am heading down to Buckhead for some pampering at the Ritz this coming weekend so I won't be doing any training on the weekend.

Pam, if you are going to be in Buckhead we have a client that owns a wonderful little restraunt called the Treehouse. Everyone loves it, plus he is a birdhunter! You need to try it for lunch. I generally avoid places like Buckhead!!!:)

the Treehouse.
I might have to try that for lunch on Sat!
I'm not one for the city but I really need a real vacation. Seems like the only time I get away is to shows or field events so I never get to stay in a really nice hotel! I'm taking my mother as a treat for her birthday and Christmas present. No guys just a girls' weekend away!!

Ray Dohse? I got my dog from him. Eshod's Lone Star (Tex), the dog in my avatar. I wish I would have seen this thread sooner, I'd have come up to see it.

Ray won the OGD with a dog named Lady, owned by Dr. Orville of North Carolina.
Just got home from down south a while ago and had a great time in spite of the rain at the trial.
Continental and Savannah River will run back to back and start next Thursday and fridady.
