Dogtra 2000 vs. Dogtra 2500
Dogtra 2000 vs. Dogtra 2500
Hi all, this question is for those of you have/had both the Dogtra 2000 T&B and the Dogtra 2500 T&B. I would like to get a comparison of the two. How does one stack up against the other so to speak. I really can't find any good comparisons on the earlier posts on the forum.
I have a 2000 T&B now and love it, but was wondering if the 2500 T&B is the way to go.
I do have concerns about the beeper being loud enough to hear over the wind or in heavy cover and also the position of the beeper. The other concern I have is the turning on and off, is it easy or what?
Please any comments you have will be grealy appreciated.
All the best!
Greg

I've got the 2000 and really don't care for the 2500 as the beeper would be poitning in the direction of the bird. Which in my mind could cause the bird to flush even though the dog hasn't moved. Was lucky enough to find a 2002 posted for sale here. I think the beeper should be point away from the birds. IMO.

Just bought a 2002 T & B. Anyone like this unit? It was suggested to me over the 2502. They didn't like the location of the beeper either.

I've used a 2002 more than a 2502. It's been a while but I remember the transmitter of the 2002 fitting and feeling better and being heavier. I didn't see much difference in the beepers. Maybe not quite as loud but it's also not on top to catch on any fences as I've had happen and no wires to break. To me the 2002 just seemed like it was built tougher but all in all I'd say it's a toss up.

I take alot of week long hunting trips. Can you use the unit all day, and then when you come in of a night, charge it through the night everyday without hurting the battery on these units. What is the avergae life span of the collars and transmitter on a full charge?

I just got a reconditioned 2002 from CC and I can see the definite quality difference between my old innoteks and the Dogtra. I haven't had a chance to use it, but I plan on trying it out.

Re: Dogtra 2000 vs. Dogtra 2500
I got my new 2002 this week and got it out today and put them on the dogs. The quality is good and I like the control of the transmitter. One thing I noticed was that the beeper seemed really loud. Does anyone have any tips (besides stuffing the horn full of tissue) on how to turn down the volume or if you can?
Another thing, how do some of you guys get your dogs accustomed to the beeper?

KY Grouse hunter,
You can't adjust the volume on the 2000 or 2002 T&B. If you have the two dog setup the orange collar seems to have a slightly lower tone which seems to be a little easier on the ears. The black collar emits a higher pitch and is audible at a greater distance IMO.
I never had a problem getting them used to it. I just let them run around with it on for a while each time I took them out. After a short while they seemed to just ignore it. I also might add that I normally will not turn the beeper on when hunting except to maybe run it on "point" only mode when in very heavy cover. I will usually just use the locate feature when i need a quick location of the dog. if it seems to bother your dogs then I suggest stuffing and then taping over the opening of the horn till they get accustomed to it.

Thats what I am going to have to do. Today I let them run with it on run and point, and at first it was hard on them but after about 10 min. they got a little used to it but I will only use it on point only mode while hunting. I do like the collars so far though.

There is a high /low toggle switch on the front of the 2000 transmitter and on mine at least there is a significant difference between the two settings. I started my pup out with the horn stuffed with tissue and let her run around the yard with it on until she ignored it. Out training she could care less once she was around birds.

I believe he has the 2002 T&B and there is no toggle on the two dog unit. With the two dog unit you get an orange and a black collar, each emitting a slightly different tone (high/low), so essentially the same as what your toggle does on the single dog collar.

the model I have is the 2002. The toggle switch on the 2002 model is to toggle between orange and black collar as stated.

Re: Dogtra 2000 vs. Dogtra 2500
I have the 2502 T&B and love it. I like the fact the horn and electronics are on the same box. I also can adjust the volume of the collars within 3 levels of sound volume. They have been plenty loud for my dog running over the hill every once in a while. They also have a locate button which will maximize the volume and that is really loud. I hate hitting it because I feel bad for the dog. You can easily turn the collar off by hitting the mode button three times. Once is the beeper on/tracking mode, Next mode, is the point only, and last is to turn it off. The selector on the front toggles between the two collars, the orange has a high pitch and the green collar has the low (i think thats the right order). I have been really happy with mine and because the collars are compact, they easily fit into a side pocket on my training bag. The transmitter is nice with the indicator for volume level of the collar and the intensity level you have set.

Re: Dogtra 2000 vs. Dogtra 2500
Greg,
The 2500 Dogtra T&B is different than the 2000 T&B, both are good units, for dogs who are mid running type dogs. The 2000 however is a better Collar for the big running deep woods Grouse dog, because the beeper speaker is located on top of the dogs neck & the shock unit is oppsite the Beeper unit, under the dogs neck, the 2500 unit is engineered as one beeper shock unit completely underslung. With the beeper on top the older 2000 unit can be heard for a much greater distance, especially when being used as a locator. So if you have a big running Grouse dog, and hunt the deep woods, you will need the older 2000 style Collar, other wise the 2500 Collars are great. The new DT Systems H20 T&B is also a good investment because it is engineered like the older 2000 Dogtra units.
