I am looking to buy a new pair of chaps and was wondering what some of you might recommend, besides filson? I want something durable and water resistant. I also need a decent blank pistol. I am not the pro trainer that would use it every day. I train my own dogs and help a few friends, I was thinking of one that shoots the 209 primers.

I have a pair of the Filson, but I have seen lots of people wearing a brand called Wicks. They have a full length zipper to make it easier to get them on and off and I think they are cheaper than the Filsons. You might check them out.

Im thinking of getting some turtle skin chaps next...supposed to be very light and flexible but super strong....

My cousin is a Police Officer. He uses the turtleskin patrol and duty gloves for protection from needles. He had them down here in AZ for protection from thorns while hunting. They worked great. If the chaps work as well as the gloves, I would definitely get them.

I use Mule chaps. Water proof and last forever. They even have pockets on the side.

i like the one with lots of pockets.

I have tried all over to find the WICK brand and come to find out they went out of business, so good luck with that. I use Filson but I seem to go thru them about every two seasons.

Mule chaps are great IMO.

For any of the above suggestions, how is the fit in the thigh? I've seen several nice chaps, but the main beef I've heard about all of them is that there isn't enough room in the thigh.

I have fairly large thighs,and my mule chaps have plenty of room. Not tight at all, and just the right amount of room. I am very pleased with them.

phermes i have been wondering the same thing. The filson come in Husky, an extra 2" in the thigh, if I bought a pair, I think that is they way I would go.

I bought 2 pair of cheap mad dog nylon chaps bout 5 years back, super light and waterproof.
They handle the greenbriar and brambles well. I thought i would by 2 pair cause they were so
inexpensive and I expected them to fail. Well 5 years now and the first pair is holding up nicely.

For cheap, light , waterproof chaps for warm climate they have been pretty good.

Wicks is out of business as said, but Nitelite of Arkansas makes one similar and only slightly higher.

I have a 12 year old pair of Filson double tin chaps. The outside layer on 1 side has finally shredded up and I was forced to trim some off. Maybe I'll get another 12 years on the next layer. And believe me, they have not sat in the closet. I'm an every weekend hunter. Down here in La., we have lots of briars.
