Invisible Fence systems

Post by G_Boyd » Fri Aug 26, 2005 9:33 am

Hello,

I am new to this forum and this is my first question.

Does anyone want to recomend a invisible fence system? I have gotten an estimate on the brand "Invisible Fence" to come out and install a syatem but $1,300 seems a bit high for 2.5 acres. I can bury the wire myself but I want a quality system.

Any input would be great,

Greg

Greg welcome to the site,I'm sure someone will respond, but until they do here's another post on a e-fence. I don't have one so I can't help, but you can pm someone on that post and maybe they can.

Thanks for the link... I read the post and the idea of using the edger for buring the cable is great. Gonna give that a shot.

Never used one. I've not heard anyone on the forum talk of using one, so you may become the expert on this. :D

I use the Pet Safe unit, I found that with Innotek the colars would fail, batteries go dead etc. the petsafe system uses a stuborn dog collar and a 9 volt battery found everywhere. I used a edger to do my 4 acres no problem. I threw away the wire they send and went to maynards, bought the heavy direct bury wire 500 ft for 20 bucks. Use the crimps to join wire together and a shrink wrap so it is water proof. All my dogs are on this now for 1 year and no problems so far. Innotek I would be on the second collars now.

it took 4 spools to do 4 avres and there is some left over.

also you can use a surge suppressor from maynards or radiop shack that will protecxt it from lightning strikes.

Look for the petsafe one on ebay :) costs a little less.

Does anybody have any problems with their dogs breaking free of the shock and getting out? I want to install one but I thing that a chain link fence might be a better solution.

Hi RabbitBeagle,

I have use the same innotek system for 10 years and have never had a problem with the system or collar failing. You will need to train you dog to understand where the boundary is and how to respond to the stimulation when your dog moves in on the underground fence. Once my dogs learned where the boundaries are and how to respond to the stimulation they never tested the boundaries again.

I have a pet safe and love it we installed it in one afternoon we hooked a anhydrous shank up to the 4 wheeler and took off. I ordered it from LCS I think 400 bucks with 3 collars much cheaper than having to scrap a dog up. The edger would work great to. Sure is nice to let the dogs out at night to go and not have to worry about them getting on the road.

The ones that I have been looking at have a 6' radius of shock zone. Has anybody found one with less of a radius? Or one that will only shock once the dog gets over the property line?

I live in town and would like to give my pup as much room as possible.
