I ordered my father in law a new hunting coat from cabelas the Dry-Plus Performance Upland Series. Is anyone familiar with it? I got it out of the box and my first reaction was man this things heavy!

My father in law is 60 turning 61 and I'm afraid the coat may wear him out!
I'm looking for a light weight water proof brush coat-- What do you guys suggest?
Thanks,
Josh

Rick and I both have a Cabelas gore-tex upland coat, it`s khaki colored with blaze trim, we love these. Usually on sale after the 1st. They are not heavy, I don`t know if thats what you have.

I prefer a coat myself. Mainly because it can go from plus 3 to minus 30 in 1 mile. I am going to be buying one from cabelas before next season.

I have the dry plus coat and love it. Usually the birds and shot are going to wear more than the coat.

I picked up a $15 special from Old Navy. It's a thick cotton fabric coat, kind of like a duck cloth material (only it's hunter green colored), 4 front pockets, 2 inside pockets, crazy rugged, but not waterproof. I guess you could always get some Filson/Cabela wax and turn it into an oil-finished coat, kind of like tin cloth.
My only gripe about it is that it hangs down well below my waistline, which makes it hard to get things from my pants pockets or anything clipped to my belt.
