Get the garmin, I have the sport dog tek combo collar and I works but would really have liked to see the actual topo map like the garmin has.

I love my Tek1.0. Have friends that have the Garmin and it seems to work fine too, perhaps a bit more complicated. I guess it will depend on what features you want. I like the simple transition between track and train and use my phone for maps or aerial photo of cover. The Tek had a feature to mark the truck which has saved me a great deal of walking down some road.

Don't get me wrong, the tek is a decent tracking collar but I have seen the garmin in action and it seems to be more detailed.

I bought the Tek-1. My 35 lb Brittany did not like the weight and bulkiness of the Tek-1. Sold the tek-1

Just bought Garmin 430 with t-5. It is just as big as the tek-1. Am I dumb or what. She is a little older now and hunts well with the T-5. Now my kids have big GSP,s. will buy another collar for them. It will be a mini.

You bought the Astro 430 with the standard T 5 collar. It also comes with the T 5 Mini collar. That's what you should have gotten, I have the Alpha with the TT15 Mini collar for my Brittany.

Dogtra Pathfinder might be another choice.
