NFC/FC/REG./SPECIE CHAMPION CHISHOLM CREEKS CUTTIN LOOSE
It is with a very very sad heart that I have to write this as it has not been to long since we lost Pickens Diamond Texanna & 2XNGDC/FC BDK's Shake The Bank but Mark had to put down Cutter this morning. Cutter had been going down hill on him for a week (almost) and after taking to the University in Denver and xray's and mri's later they found that Cutter had a tumor on his spine toward his hindquarters. If some don't know who Cutter is he was a coming 6 yr. old out of Miss Kitty from Dodge City x FC Sin City Slick Ace. Cutter had won lots in his short life on this earth and gave great joy and pleasure to his owner Mark Wasserman and Keith & myself. Cutter will be very hard to replace but their are a lot of pups on the ground and getting ready to hit the ground that will carry on their daddy's name very proudly and hoping to accomplish all Cutter had.
Below are his accomplishments up to date:
Finished FC title March 27, 2005
2005 GSPCA National AA Championship~ 3rd place
2006 GSPCA National AA Championship~ 4th under Mark's handle
2006 AKC's #1 AA Ranked dog
2007 NGSPA Region 5 AA Championship~ Runner up
2007 NGSPA Rocky Mnt. AA Stake~ 2nd place
2007 GSPCA National All Age Champion~ Winner
2008 NGSPA Quail AA Championship~ Winner
2008 NGSPA Great Plains AA Championship~ Runner Up
I might be missing something else big while I took off to work for AKC for 7 months.
Anyway, we'll greatly miss Cutter as he was such a joy to be around, train and campaign. Here are some pictures as well. Look for all those Cutter babies around and running.
"Cutter you were one in a million but your legacy will live on in the kids that we have of yours and that are around the country. Hopefully one of them will do as well as you have done and make you even prouder. Enjoy your journey over the Rainbow Bridge Smutter until we see you again"

We are so sorry for the loss you guys. We have watched Cutter and competed with Cutter since he was a baby! He has been a joy to watch, and run with. It is a great loss to our gsp world. We are honored to have some young pups out of him and look forward to them carrying on his name as they grow. Cutter you left us too soon buddy, we are glad you are not in pain, but will miss you greatly. We love you "Sputter", may you run forever.

For such a great dog to pass this early in his career is indeed a terrible loss. What all he accomplished in such a short time, would be considered a dream career for any shorthair. Winning and placing in his last 3 GSPCA National All stakes was just phenomenal.
To Mark, Robbi and Keith, you have my sincere condolences.

My condolences. It's never easy to lose a great dog; at that age it must be very tough.

Re: NFC/FC/REG./SPECIE CHAMPION CHISHOLM CREEKS CUTTIN LOOSE
I spoke with the Vet at Alemeda East this week and they had misdiagnosed Cutters condition. He did not have a spinal tumor as originally thought. He had a grass seed migrate up thru his spine causing a severe infection. The vet said the seed was actually in the bone. While Cutter couldn't have been at a better facility it just goes to show you they don't know everything. The decision to put him down was made on the diagnoses of a tumor that was inoperable and was going to spread rapidly. Could he have been treated? I don't know but I am going to find out.

Re: NFC/FC/REG./SPECIE CHAMPION CHISHOLM CREEKS CUTTIN LOOSE
Mark~I have had the misfortune of having 2 dogs fall victim to a grass seed. One of them probably got it through his nose as it showed up as an abcess on his side, near the back of his lung. The vet put a drain in it and with meds he was better in about 3-4 weeks.
The other one wasn't as lucky. His migrated to his sternum area, and required major surgery as the meds didn't work after 4 or 5 months of the abcess going away and coming back. When they operated, they had to remove a lot of tissue and muscle to make sure they got what was causing it. They could not find a definitive seed because there was so much infection.
He had a hard recovery, having drains inserted and removed 5 different times, because fluid kept building up after removal. Needless to say he wasn't a happy camper for 3 or 4 months after the surgery, and never did regain all of his power and stamina. B4 this happened he would hang all day with the best of them.
This probably doesn't answer your question about it being treatable, that's a tough call. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
I would say that if the seed was embedded in the bone near the spine, that surgery would have been risky because of paralysis, and antibiotics alone probably wouldn't have got it either.
Either way, this whole situation just sucks, with losing such an obviously important dog to the breed as well as a part of the CCK and BDK family. My heart goes out to you all.
May his legacy live long and strong in his get!!
