A Dog Changed My Life
I was sitting in my reading room, reading my new PDJ about Dez Young book on Hank. A Dog Changed My Life what a wonderful dog and I can't wait to get the book. After reading the article with a few tears in my eyes I returned to my living room where my llewllin sat pulling out all the stuffing to a pillow that she decided it didn't need, and my Gordon decided that he could learn more from Rick Smiths training DVD if he ate it.

Llewgor,I felt the same way after reading the article I am going to buy the book.I then went outside to check onmy three birdmutts, and I guess they were planing to add a basement to there house so i had to pull the permit on that. It's funny like that you read some story or watch Ol' YELLER get a little choked up about your dog an they go an up hold themselves so well for you.HaHa.

I read that same article and also felt a but choked up as it brought back memories of my springer spaniel that passed last fall.
"Hunting with Hank," is by far my favorite hunting show...What an amazing dog.
I will definitely be buying the book.

I missed out on the Hunting with hank series. I have all of the Dash and Dez episodes recorded on the Tivo. I enjoy the shows. I think that there could be a better bird dog show done. But hey, we take what we can get.
A friend of mine told me of a time that they were recording one of the shows here in Utah at a hunting preserve. I don't know if it was Hunting with Hank or if it was Dash. At any rate that is not the important part here. My friend, who posts on this forum
, saw something that has in a way ruined the show for me.
They were using planted birds. They knew where the birds were and worked the dog to them. Then the most disturbing part was that Dez was not the real trainer or handler of the dog. The trainer/handler is off screen.
None of this changes the fact that those dogs are great representatives of our sport, helping to promote it and doing a good job. My point is that I would rather see a show called "Hunting with Hank and Dash's real trainer/handler"
So here is a million dollar idea for someone with the connections. Go out and make a bird dog training series.
Still even knowing what I know about those Dez Young shows, I watch them. I also watch the shows with Jamison Parker, the guy who used to be on Simon and Simon. On the Jamison Parker show, when he was on one of the hunts in Colorado, I watched them flush a Rooster from under the same log twice in the same show.
Let's take this even further................ How bout a whole new satellite channel. "The Bird Dog Channel". We could have reporters covering all the great trials, dog training shows, and such.
Ahh heck, it is spring time. It's warm out. Let's just get away from the TV and train our dogs.

12 voltman dez young i believe is the trainer. i saw them at the sportsman show in sacramento, which i believe they have that in salt lake city. anyway he did all the handling with both dogs. but they do use planted birds and some are launched. hard to set up the right camera angles and such in the field.

Whether or not Dez was the trainer, or if the birds were planted, I still love the show.
It presents the essence of what we are doing and why we do it. For the love and companionship of our canine friends. Whether or not I get a bird in the field, the day was a successful one; because I was spending time with my best friend.
