AKC hunt test blank Pistol

Postby weim-owner » Tue Jul 22, 2008 10:29 am

What type of blank pistol do I need to run in AKC hunt tests? Can I use .22 cal crimp loads, 209 primers etc.. I read the rule book and it states a pistol that cannot shoot live ammo must be used, but nothing about ammo that can and cannot be used. I am just getting into the hunt test arena. Any info would be great.

It must be a "blank pistol", but after that I am not sure there are any additional requirements. I use a .22 cal crimp load actually from my Hilti stud shooter and thereis no issue with that.

I used a 209 blank gun in all the JH test last year without a problem. I had one guy that I was braced with get pissed off because my gun was "so loud". He said that I fired when his dog was to close to me and it did not want to hunt after that.

Here are the rules: http://www.akc.org/pdfs/rulebooks/RHTPNT.pdf . Do a search on "blank". It should be like page 15.

There is NOTHING wrong with the volume of a 209 blank gun, but if you did fire in his dog's face or something to that effect, then yeah, you messed up.

Thanks Greg, I read the rule book twice, and some how I overlooked that .22 cal crimp loads are okay. Thanks for posting the link. Thank you all for the help.
