Are these collars any good?
Are these collars any good?
Hi All,
I am having a hard time figuring out the best type of field/home collar for my GSP and Viz.
Are these any good?

Any other suggestions for nice collars?

That's a very good collar. Suggest the safety O-ring for every-day.

Those Day Glo collars are different than the K-9 comfort collar I originally asked about. Aren't the day-glo's like the TriTronics collar material?
Re: Are these collars any good?
yes dayglo is the way to go and use gundog supply and get the nameplates put your name address and phone number, do not put the dogs name on it.
if you hunt in another state put afriends local number on it also
Makes it harder for thieves if the dogs name isn't on it

Re: Are these collars any good?
I have a similiar type of collar for my 2 GSP's except I paid about twice as much for em. Same collar basically,(mine are made by Mendota) it's a biothane product, they do not hold moisture, no stinking. As Greg stated before I have the center O ring as well. My dogs wear them in the field and at home, with the exception that I take them off if there in the kennels. I'll definately look into those collars for some extras, and for the Lab too.

Re: Are these collars any good?
= Needs Medication
Pro: Makes the people not want to keep the dog.
Con: Might make some people less inclined to "get involved"
= Reward
Pro: Motiviates people to call you
Con: You have to give them some kind of reward; they might negotiate with you for the return of a valuable dog
Con: They might think the dog is worth something and not call you

Re: Are these collars any good?
I just bought 2 of these a couple months ago and I am very pleased with them. The Dayglo collar ends start to peel away over time, with this collar I don't see that happening. It's similar to the tritronics collar bout 2 times as thick. Me and my buddy pulled at each end as hard as we could and it didn't budge. I would definitely buy another.
Re: Are these collars any good?
whatever collar you get , I suggest a center ring style. They are much handier

Re: Are these collars any good?
Met Tim Miner in Minnesota, took a look at them and they also make check cords, leads, training tabs, roading harnesses etc. I decided to discontinue carrying dayglo and go with K-9 Komfort collars. They have the feel of leather and you can get a brown one that looks like leather but don't hold odor and clean up with a rag.
I would also recommend going with the o/d ring combo collar.

Re: Are these collars any good?
so do most of you just put your contact info on the collar...how many put reward or needs meds etc....
How about this one "this dog is equipped with a gps tracking unit dont think about keeping him i will find you, call for return and reward" that might work

Re: Are these collars any good?
i use to put reward until my friend lost his GSP in a field and had to "negotiate" to get his own dog back. $200 was the settled price. so i no longer put that on there. I really just put my name, town & state, cell# that's it. my dog is microchipped but sometimes i wonder what good is that... my dog doesn't roam far but friends with GSPs and Britts sometimes I worry, they are usually out of sight range. That's something I'm not use to. those guys still put reward and they are out of state most of the times but a cell# is probably a better bet than a home landline.
Re: Are these collars any good?
Thanks for the input on these collars, guys.
Just ordered a couple of these: http://www.gundogsupply.com/k-9-komfort ... --dee.html
We live along a busy street and the reflector idea was very appealing to me.
Hope they turn out to be a decent collars.

Microchip is good for proving the dog is yours if it comes down to a dispute.

Re: Are these collars any good?
microchipping is a great way to prove ownership. Had a guy get a squirrel dog stolen. It was gone for over a month and a guy saw the dog at a hunt followed the guy home. Called the owner, they went with the cops. The guy denied it was the other guys dog. The guy simply stated well we'll just scan it, It has a chip near it's shoulder and it had it's DNA on file. The guy couldn't get the lead quick enough. The cops fined the guy and the dog was returned.
