launcher electronics wet

Went to a rainy training day today. Had all the equipment in the truck bed under a tonneau cover. Discovered half way through the day that the cover was leaking somewhere and water was running in. Of course the only piece of equipment that could get damaged was in the low spot holding the most water. Bottom part of launcher electronics and we believe remote were in water. Drying them out now. Anybody have this experience too, and what was the outcome. When we got home and opened the tailgate, I believe my husband said the launcher had a solid beep going, even though we hadn't touched it. I'm still within warranty (although this was user error ). Can permanent damage be done? Denise

If they are DTs it will be about 80 bucks to fix/replace you can just unscrew th box from the launcher so you don't have to send in the entire launcher

It is a DT. Got a hair dryer on it right now, so I guess we'll see how she works tomorrow and go from there. Thanks for info. I hate learning things the hard way. Maybe I should've put the dog in the back of the truck and the launcher up front. Denise

call them up and send the box in...More then likely they will charge you they did with all three of ours said the dust and dirt caused the boxes to quit working not covred by their warranty

and ..though i still like the launcher i am not real happy with that their boxes are not more protected from allowing moisture and dirt in ...I mean come on you don't use them indoors

also when we got them back the auto shut off doesn't work on them anymore hopefully you don't have that problem ...we have to remember to shut them off or they eat batteries

I am hopefully gonna get a couple from Scott...i told him to take care of new people when he ran in to problems ...Sounds like he has that worked out I hope so for him I know how frustrated he was much less his customers

My husband got home a few moments ago, and tried it out. It works so far, but maybe we'll have problems in the future. I've been happy with it so far, but we've only had it 4 months and only have one dog we're using it with...............so it doesn't get a lot of use. Once the bugs get worked out of Scott's new launcher--I would be more than happy to purchase and try out one of those for the savings. Thanks for your advice. Denise

Most of that stuff is all solid state. Once you dry it out THOROGHLY it will probably either work just fine for the next fifty years or be fried.

I have Dogtras and what I did was to mount the base of the launcher on a small platform of 1/2" exterior plywood that was about 2" bigger all around than the launcher base and electronics.

That keeps it out of the wet grass and off the damp ground and away from moisture which I think is the cause of most malfunctions. It also allows me to have a carrying/hanging hook on the plywood and the traps don't jump around when I release them. They stay put.


I'd let them dry out for at least a couple of days before you turn them back on. Pull the batteries, of course. It might be wise to take them apart, at least partially, so you can get at the innards with the blowdrier. A bead of water can take an awfully long time to evaporate. If you have a portable dehumidifier, you could stick it in a closet or small room, hang the electronics in the air and let the dehumidifier suck the moisture out. No chance of warping any of the plastic parts that way.

i was recently wondering about e-collars. how wet can those get? can she swim in it? will it work in water? is it safe? probably a stupid question, i know.
and i'm talking about the $200 models, not the $500-$600 pro models. i dont have one so i can't read the manual, just curious now.

The tri Tronic Basic G3 collar uses the same recievers as the pro series

they work well I have had my dogs swim in them no problems at all

I even dropped th transmitter in a mud puddle...hosed it off and 2 years later it still works fine...and it uses a 9 volt battery I have changed it once since i have bought it and My collars get abused I mean used alot I also ahve the pro 100 exp

I have opened them up and used a hair dryer with good results. Just gotta do it before the damage is done.

Remove the batteries asap, and if possible open it up and let it dry in a warm sunny window for a few days. Then cross your fingers, put a new battery in and turn it on and see if it works.

Water typically only ruins electronics if they are powered up while still wet.

If it doesn't work, well send it back to DT. CR

Everyone's instructions sound spot on, the only thing I would add is with the launcher open and battery out place it in front of a fan running at high speed. While the hair dryer will work, most likely you will not want to sit in front of the launcher(s) for a long period of time. Standing water may be gone from the dryer but condensation amounts will still ruin re-energized electronics. A couple of days in front of the fan will evaporate that moisture as well. I am a cop and you would be shocked how much gear we use in an all-weather profession/environment that is not designed to be all-weather. Half the time I am just happy to have water resistant, much less water proof. We have discovered over time that fan drying soaked gear works best with little or no damage risk.
