Dog has Lupoid

Post by gspdog » Mon Jan 05, 2009 8:49 pm

My 8 month old gsp has Lupoid Dermatosis. I posted a while back under " 7 month old gsp skin prob". My vet and I have been in contact with U Penn and are trying to figure out what to do next. It's very disappointing as he is turning in to a great little hunter and is a part of the family. I wouldn't change a thing about him except for the disease. I am having a hard time grasping just how rare this disease. I had never heard of it and no one else I know has heard about it except for some of the people on here that tipped me off as to what the problem was. I've heard that maybe 1 in 100 vets have even heard of it? It seems to me that there needs to be more widely spread info about the disease so that people know about it. It's kind of a scary deal without having a genetic marker yet. Anyways, bummer deal but thanks to those that have been a help.

Truly sorry to hear about that, obviously you have been in contact with some good people on this board who have sent you in the right direction.
Unfortunately while the disease is rare, it is surfacing more and more as of late, it's not a new disease so to speak, just as of late it was not fully understood, the old germans called it the "CRUD". There is no genetic marker yet, hopefully that will follow soon.

Very sorry for you and your dog. I hope you contact the breeder and tell them. Would like to know the bloodlines if you would not mind posting them. I think it should be known the lines carrying this awful stuff.

could you remind me of the symptoms and skin condition? We have a dog that has an unknown skin condition on her ears. We have tried approaches for mange, ringworm, and some others, but it still won't go away. I just started on Nu-Stock,and today was the second application. No immediate changes yet, but hopefully sometime soon.
