Ear Pinch Technique
Just curious to learn more about pinching ears for the forced fetch. How do you do it? Do most of you all use your thumbnail or a foreign object ( buckle, dull tack, shotgun shell, etc.) I know there are different strokes for different folks but am always looking for a possible better way. Just wonderin' thanks for the advice!
Re: Ear Pinch Technique
I use thumbnaill mostly. If there is a very tough dog I might press it on the collar with thumbnail.

I once saw someone use a ring with a blunt spur on it. He made it out of a coat hanger.

Re: Ear Pinch Technique
This is the rig I use and have for over 30 years. I know, it looks like it.
This reason I use this is that it puts less pressure on the ear. When you just "touch" the ear to that golf cleat they whimper and respond. When you just use your thumb or thumb nail, you can rub the ear raw. Old dog trainers trick.

My golden didnt need a lot of pressure so i used whatever I had on hand at the time like a shotgun shell, the edge of my house key, the buckle on the collar

Re: Ear Pinch Technique
I recently used the ear pinch for the first time, I have just squeezed her ear between my thumb and the buckle on her collar. I have since transitioned to the shock collar.

Gone, Holy Smokes that thing looks like it belongs in a museum somewhere! I love it, it makes me wonder what else you got in that treasure chest up there!! I'll bet there are hounds all over the country that are still talking to each other about that "special collar" you got. You better get a patent on that thing before someone from Lion Country Supply sees it. I would have bought one!

Gone, did you just put a nut on the back of the cleat?

Re: Ear Pinch Technique
That is actually an old metal golf cleat filed down. Putting a nut and bolt on it and rounding the edges does the exact same thing. I don't know if they even make metal cleats for sport shoes anymore.ACooper wrote:Gone, did you just put a nut on the back of the cleat?
Gosh guys, I said it was old!

Oh yeah I can still get metal cleats, I have some with that would work perfect, that is a really simple but good idea.

As long as there's some interest in it, here is the correct grip and a most unhappy Draht.
Force fetch was one thing she was not eager to re-visit.
