HELP My Springer Stinks

I bathe her, use in between wipes to wipe her down and within a short time period she starts stinking again. Is there that much difference in shampoos? Is this a Vet call? Don't know what to do.

Any suggestions will greatly appreciated...

Wet Springer hair will smell. The key is to use a blow drier and get her totally dry - this also helps avoid hot spots. jmo

Thanks Sharon, But she starts to smell again after she is dry and within a couple hours of the bath. It's crazy!

Strange. You're sure it's a body smell and not an ear smell? Infected ears can cause a pungent odor.

sharon has a good point, cruddy ears smell just seems to dominate a dog, did the dog just start smelling?

our cocker spaniel has the worst ear wax stench i've ever smelled. my poor brittany stays outside and the cocker is house dog....my dog smells better than the cocker

one of the best ear cleaners is the tried and true blue stuff, one bottle of witch hazel, 4 tablespoons of pharma grade boric acid and 16 drops of Gentian Violet...yeast just generally stinks so to the extent you can control yeast with diet the better you are...cleaners will work and that one will kill yeast but it will come back and stink the dog up again.

Have you emptied her anal glands? That can be a source of stink many times!!

if its not anal glands or ears and the dog is acting normal otherwise i would seriously consider a change of diet

Does she have an underlying skin infection of some sort? Does she have flea allergy dermatitis? what are you using to bathe her in? and like Mbosco asked...what are you feeding? She may be having food or flea intolerance issues that are manifesting with gunky ears and smelly skin ........how are3 her teeth? poor dental health can really smell bad! How old is she?

the other thing that comes to mind is demodectic mange, ... that mange has a definite smell, but how could someone miss it?

I would take your dog to a professional groomer for a complete bath. Any professional groomer can check the ears for any problems and clean them. They know how to do a complete ear flush. They can also check the anal gland for any cause of the smell and express it if needed. All while giving your dog a bath with a shampoo to get rid of the odor

They can also evaluate your dogs skin and coat for any kind of skin issues.

Here is the best shampoo in my opinion for cleaning any dirty stinky dog. Ask the groomer if they have any.

This should cost you a whole lot less than a vet visit, unless the groomer recommends your dog see a vet.

Anal glands are done and I am feeding her Science diet, she just turned 8 months old today. I just picked up some stuff to add to her water to help her breath which is horrid also. Skin looks good and will take her to the groomer.

Stuff to help her breath, whats this all about? Have never heard of a dog having trouble breathing and needing medication.

If her breath stinks that could be a sign of a possible tooth issue. By using drops and other things you are covering up the underlying problem.

If you think that her stench is not because of her anal glands and her bad breath is a different issue, I suggest that you consult with a vet. My brother had a Lhasa Apso and he smelled terrible. When the vet checked him out, he said that he had some blood disease.

well I switched from Science diet to Kirkland food and her body order has diminished and her breath is much better. Simple things are best

I have a dog that is pushing 18. He had some pretty horrid breath during the years when the teeth were rotting away. The dog is a Yorkie, and my wife got him in '92. Stink can also be a matter of opinion. I'll tell you my dog smells fine, even behind the ears, but my wife will probably tell you different.
