blank pistol

I am looking a LCS pistols and was wondering witch is the best route to go 209 primers or 22 crimps? Is one louder than the other or does that really matter. I know primers are easy to get just about any where that sells reloading supplies. It will not get heavy use and I will not be trialing just working a couple of young dogs with it.....Thanks

Generally 209s are louder and generally less expensive. With .22s you can get any number of loads from soft acorns to heavily loaded blanks. You can get .22 loads at any store that carries .22 nailers like Fleet Farm, Menards, Lowes, Home Depot. Also .22 blanks are available from many sporting goods stores like Gander Mountain, Cabela's, etc.

Which pistols are you looking at? I bought the Kimar pro last year and really like it. It is a 209 pistol, is really solidly built unlike some other brands, and if you are worried about it being too loud you can hold it behind your back or do like me and extend your arm up in the air when firing it so that you are not firing right next to the dog. With the 209 pistols you don't have to use several different loads and graduate from quieter to louder loads you just have the one load. The 209's are generally louder but for me more convenient. As was previously stated you can buy the 22 loads from the hardware store in the concrete nailer department. Good luck.

A lot of pistols that are made for crimps have warnings not to fire regular 22 blanks
