training older gsp questions

I just adopted an 18 mo. male gsp. He already already knows sit, come and loves to retrieve. I was told that he is birdy but am yet to get him out on any. This is my first gsp and want to make sure that I get him trained correctly. I have a check cord already but don't want to use it incorrectly. I have looked for books on training pointers but haven't had any luck. I have looked on here quite a bit but seem to find information on pups mostly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Finaly someone in my home town.

If you would like you are more than welcome to come out and train with me. I am working on getting my pigeons trained so I will have readily available birds. The CC is no problem to learn how to use.

Hey glad to finally find someone on one of these forums that is from this area. Seems that no one from northern Nevada ever goes on these forums. We will have to get together.
