I like "wing and shot". You should also read "Snake Foot: the making of a champion" it is more so about Robert Wehle's (Elhew) breeding program, but is very interesting.

Wing and shot is a classic - well written. Davis book is a classic too! I have both and love them.

+1 on the Delmar Smith book, written by Bill Tarrant. Wehle is just a bit too wordy for me.
Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.
