Thought for a new topic/category

Post by birddog1968 » Sat Jan 29, 2011 7:26 pm

Just Had an idea, and wondering what others might think.....

Would it be beneficial or is there any interest in adding a photography category to the forum?

Just a thought.....

I think it would be something that is at least worth trying.

Its fairly easy, Crop and resize your pictures on your machine or with photobuckets tools....once on photobucket and resized to 800 X600 just mouse over the picture thumbnail and left click on the IMG link, then paste to your post.

That's all there is to it.

Its really fairly easy.

Maybe someone around home or friends can help you understand.

You can download Paint.net for a free simple photo editor, play with it and learn to resize your photos to 800 x 600 Pixels per inch (PPI)....

Create a free photobucket account and use the "upload now" link at top of page to bring your pictures online. Then its just a matter of copy and paste to get them here.

Maybe this tutorial will help- http://www.ehow.com/video_4978547_photo ... hotos.html

I know I'm new to all of this but I think there should be a whole category devoted to pigeons and pigeon keeping. It seems like anyone who wants to be serious about pointer training also needs to be serious about pigeons.

Thank you Wems and I think you are right. Just wasn't sure I had any pics that could measure up to what everyone else had and wasn't sure how they would enhance most of the topics on here.

I kind of like the idea being put forth here but am wondering to we just post pics or do we allow others to make comments about them on the same thread which might take the topic in a different direction. I just wanted o see how it would look if we did it. I did like the thread that we had going about style. Thought that was a good one as far as nice pics went.

Ruth, Yeah I have found the Brit to be pretty much the ideal dog for the family. I have had several GSPs, a couple of English setters, two Irish Setters, a pointer, a vizsla, two Labs, and a hundred Brits. Plus a few toy terriers and quite a few Dobes and a few mixed breeds plus a Staffordshire. I guess one of the things that made the Brits stand out for me is the fact that we still have a lot of breeders who understand that if you want to improve the dogs you start with dogs that meet the standard and they still can be as good as any in the field. Much the same as you see Snips at Walnut Hill and Honey run doing with the GSPs.

Other pluses are they are small. the easiest keepers, happy friendly dispostion that make great family pets and house dogs. I did not find they were better in the field as there are great dogs in every breed and I find some differences in the field but do not find one better than the rest.

I guess i was thinking a photography category might be a little more than just posting pics , but that's great too. I thought might be a good way to show pics, discuss cameras, editing, making slide shows .......a place for some more camera savvy members to educate us photo challenged individuals.

On another forum I'm on critiquing of photos is welcome as a learning opportunity on composition, settings, editing.... I also think if a photo sparks discussion that's a good thing as well, as long as people stay civil.

Good to know..im thinking about getting my 11 year old a britt since shes getting old enough to have the responsibilities..she is interested in getting into agility competition and showing..a shorthair is just to big for her to handle at this point..do you find female or male is more easy going and is their certain bloodlines more for show/agility..also definitely a house dog, sleeping buddy for her  ..we actually just started discussing it more serious with her in the last few days lots more info we will be needing on them as my husband and i have never owned one and it wouldnt be until she took some junior handling classes to see if she maintains interest...ruth

I like to lurk over on this site, just for the photography. We share some of the same members too.

Anyway, you can see from their site, what different topics come up and the kinds of pics that people post. IMO it kind of opens it up, so you don't feel like a photo hog, posting pics without a specific relevant reason.

Ruth, I have no specfic bloodline that I think is better but I would probably go with some of the smaller dogs such as the Beans Blaze dogs. The pic you see of my two are that breeding and I love the size and he little smoother coats. I think that would be a great choice as it would fill the bill for her purposes and you and your husband could take it hunting along with your pup. They would work well together and that way when your daughter goes to school or lose interest you have a ready made hunting companion. Rush is a 4X gg grandson of Bens Blaze and he is the most agile Brit I have seen and Time is a grand daughter and is an exceptional field dog with a smooth coat and very easy to work with. And both get by with about two cups of feed a day.

I think you have hit on a great plan for you as well as your daughter. I personally kind of like females but then I get a dog like Rush and he is just as easy though a little harder headed but sometimes that is an advantage. Think I would just get which ever you like or can find and run with it.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

The guys that started that site were members here when they decided to try something more regional. Good people.
