Bird Dog Names

Post by prairiefirepointers » Wed May 04, 2011 1:37 am

Everyone knows its not easy picking out names for a birddog. Some of them just come to you, and sometimes it requires alot of thought. Every litter we have it gets harder to name pups. I am pretty particular about names, so just some generic name thrown out will not do. They're birddogs afterall! I can't go naming them "fluffy" or "precious"

I've already named the 2 males in my litter. "Trigger" and "Pistol" - My wife named one of the 4 females "Birdy"

How about everyone comes up with 10 of your best birddog names? Half & half. 5 male names, 5 female. I'll review the posts on Friday evening @ 7pm CST and whoever my lovely wife & I deem has highest number of GREAT names (out of 10) will be the winner and I will send them a "Flippy Flopper - Flying Disc For Dogs" for your trouble. I'll even let the winner choose the color. :D

Berretta, Ruger, Hans, Gretchen, Blue........etc........

If you prefer unique names, then I'd offer up:

Good topic, always love coming up with a name for a new dog. Actually I'm kind of stumped on the latest one.
I've been keeping a list of names and it's growing slowly, but there is a lot to look through and you can submit your dog's name. http://www.gundognames.com/

Here's mine...

Males: Cooper, Cowboy, Otis, Spooner, Rooster
Females: Lola

I named the pups in the last litter, some were of coarse changed by their new owners...

Males: Zeke, Otis, Elvis
Females: Lulu, Belle

Try and use the names from the characters in your favorite TV show or Movie. Maybe names from your favorite sports team like Adrian , Greenway, Brett, Percy. Just don't use names like Rogers ,Driver, Grant, Mathews

Good stuff so far! I was suprised to see how many posts there was this morning!

GreyDawg is on the right track. Although a "classic" name is good, I prefer some "Uniqueness" mixed in. For example my dogs are named

Cy -male
Clyde- male
Sooner- male
Tabasco- male

Sam- female
Jenny- female
Kacey- female

Good Stuff, keep em rollin in. Don't be afraid to go back and edit your list if you think of something good. :D

I used to hunt with a guy had a black lab, kids named him "Black Beuty" :)

Hows about rover? or my fav dog....... works for either sex.

Had a dog named hoss, he was the biggest springer I ever saw.

Cousin named his "Barney bad azz" due to its gassy dispostion, that dog could clear a rendering plant.....

Steering the thread back onto the road now...

Thanks for lots of great responses. We will pick a winner this evening. You still have until 7pm CST to list your 10 names or go back and add or edit any you have already placed.

This has been great! Maybe we'll do this every year. :D
