If you have a Bass Pro close, go handle both and and take advantage of the sales and discounts they are offering right now.

They have the SX3 for 899 and the Stoeger for 549, you can get an extra 50-75 off due to the sale, if you get approved for a Bass Pro credit card you can save and additional 10%. I just bought a Benelli SBE 2 for 899 after all the discounts.

I bought a Winchester SX3 last year for waterfowl. I have nothing but good things to say about it - it eats everything from the lightest trap loads to heavy 3-1/2" rounds. It only weighs seven pounds, but felt recoil is much less than my heavier Mossberg 835. It comes with a full shim kit to adjust drop and cast, and takes minutes to adjust. Easy to take apart, easy to clean, it cycles incredibly fast and it worked flawlessly all last season in all sorts of weather - rain, snow, single digit temps, you name it. Dropped more than few birds with it too.

Any comments on the Stoeger 3500?? Ive been researching this new model and it sounds like a pretty nice gun for the money.

I have been doing the same research for my boys 1st shotgun. I found this video which I thought was amusing. I have a buddy who just bought the 3500 and is taking it out this weekend. We shot some skeet with it and it sure was nice, shouldered real well cycled great. Guess we will see what his report is after this weekend. I'm looking to make my purchase next week. I will say the SX3 feels extremely light... I just cannot justify a 1st shotgun at that price.

Pretty late here. A good shotgun for watefowl won't necessarily make a good shotgun for upland over pointing dogs. Generally for waterfowl you needs a gun that swings well. That normally means about a 28" barrel min. Chokes don't matter because I think everything comes with tubes. A good shotgun for upland over pointing dogs needs to point well. 26" barrel max for me. Shots are generally much closer.

I never heard of an SX3 but I suspect it is an upgrade on the old Super X.#1? People with setter's are generally honest, friendly, quite intelligent, are surrounded by beautiful womem half their age and they shoot a gentlemans gun, SxS's!

I have a setter, I'm honest, friendly, intelligent, but I'm not surrounded by beautiful women half my age because my wife won't let me date. I do have a few SxS's I enjoy though. 5 out of 6...

And the SX3 I suppose at 7 lbs is light enough for upland use - it weighs exactly the same as some of the double guns I have, and is a little lighter than some of the others.

And yeah it's a lot of money, but amortized over a lifetime of use it's not that much. I bet you'd go through 2 or 3 Stoegers before wearing out a Winchester.
