So what are the new HT titles added by the AKC?

Post by phillipsgsp » Thu Dec 15, 2011 10:23 am

What are the new HT titles that have been added by the AKC? I have heard of the addition of more passes at any level JH,SH,MH will earn a different level of title, say a MH2 or MH3 for a number of extra passes, is this true? Can someone in a nutshell , explain what has been added?

Thanks, Chad

The Criteria
Advanced titles may be earned in all three testing levels. After a dog has earned its initial title in a given
testing level, it may continue to enter the same test. To receive a qualifying leg toward the Advanced title,
the dog must achieve an average score of 8.0 or higher. (Note: The average qualifying score for the initial title
is 7.0.) The categories scored at each testing level remain the same. There should be no change in how
dogs are scored. Five Advanced qualifying legs are required to earn the Advanced title.

C'mon, set your sights higher - why not go for the new AKC retriever hunt test titles the versatile breeds can now attain: MHR (Master Hunter Retriever), SHR, and JHR.

I would agree, the retriever test titles for me ,would be more of interest than going on past MH. I have friends that are in the HRC and have told me that my MH dogs would have no problem running in a seasoned test. Not sure of all the AKC criteria for them ,but definitly would look into it.

I do have mixed feelings about the advanced titles though. It will be a great way for clubs and the AKC to generate money, but I probably would not value a advanced title anymore than a straight title, at least not till you get to the MH level. to have averages of 8 or better in @ that level and to do it 5 more times does say somthing about the dog.

I think they don't do anything good for the dogs or the handlers. Make it harder. Ask for a water retrieve, extra requirements. I will look at NO dog different just because it qualified more times with an average higher score. Pullleeeease!

I agree. I think any of the versatile breeds would benefit from extra "testing" for an "extra" title.

But hey, what the heck do I know.....
