Re: Puppy shot question
I went with what my vet told me . I have also given my own shots at the times the vets have given me. I have a chart some where on my messy desk I could find for you .
My GSP was born on the 1-12-11
first shots where 2-9-11
second shots where 3-9-11
third shots 10 weeks 3-23-11
looking at my notes we did a 7 way puppy

Re: Puppy shot question
Pup's I raised got a sshot at six, eight, twelve and sisteen weeks.
Pup's I buy have one shot when I get them, another at thelve weeks and another at sisteen weeks. I would really rather breeders I buy from give the six week shot too but at six weeks I don't know what pup I'm getting.

I pity the man that has never been loved by a dog!
Re: Puppy shot question
Ok so 6, 8, 12 & 16 weeks? I thought it used to be 6, 9, 12, 15 weeks every 3 weeks but now I'm reading people doing 6 & 8 wks and I didnt know you could do them that close.
Re: Puppy shot question
When I have a litter, I give a kennel cough down the nose at 5 and 7 weeks. I give a parvo only shot at 6 weeks. I give a 5 way puppy(no lepto) at 7 weeks. When I keep a pup they get another 5 way at 10 weeks. I then give a 7 way puppy and a corona shot at 13 weeks. Rabies shot at 6 months. I had a friend loose a whole litter of vacinated pointer pups due to catching something at Branched Oaks trial grounds---so I don't take any chances with shots

Re: Puppy shot question
My pups get 3, 5 way shots between 6 and 12 weeks. I read a posting a few months ago from the American board of Vet (something like that). I believe it recommended 3 shots at 8, 12, and 16 weeks.

Re: Puppy shot question
Yes the new protocol is for 8, 12, and 16 weeks. I've been following this for about 5 yrs now. I give a 5 way shot (no Lepto). Rabies is given at 20 weeks. Lepto is given at 6 mos as we have had cases in my area.Birddog3412 wrote:My pups get 3, 5 way shots between 6 and 12 weeks. Re: Puppy shot question
We go at 7, 9 and 16. Rabies at 16. We have ours done by our vet and follow her recommendation.
There is a very small chance of immunity from the first shot, but we like to have one in them before they go home. CJ
