They will eat almost twice as much when the babies start getting bigger. I give them about as much as they will eat.

I feed an ounce per bird twice a day. I count new hatched birds as a bird.

They should never run out of food and must have lots and lots of water to make "milk".

I feed Royal Racing Pigeon and don't forget the grit!

I have kept feral pigeons on and off for years, and I always fed them cheap chicken feed. I am in the process of building a loft and I will be buying some homing pigeons in the next few weeks. I would also like to hear what most of you feed pigeons, how do you supply grit to the pigeons.

Keep feed in there at all times unless you are planning on flying any of your birds. I never let mine out on a full stomach. I feed milo with a little chicken layer mix and sometimes throw in some all purpose sweet feed and calf feed in the mix. Pigeons are like goats, they eat anything. I give cracked oyster shell for grit.

I never keep feed in front of them at all times since it is too expensive to waste. I do try and feed all they want when feeding youngsters but the feeder should be pretty well empty with in 10 or 15 minutes. Pigeons are like any animal and will eat anything if they are hungry enough. you can feed all pellets cheaper than whole grain but it does make the droppings pretty pasty and harder to clean. If you do feed all pellets you don't need to feed grit either. I like to feed part pellets and part grain though to help keep the cost down.

What if... you are flying them AND they have young they are taking care of... leaving the male in during the day, etc

Wouldn't you believe that had a male disappear on me that had a week old chic? Strange, I think he flew back to SLC or got eaten by something
