I use line cook cooking mats and put a blanket on top. It has worked well for my dogs.

Interlocking Ergo mats from lowes... They come in a 4pk. 24" Square. One package is $20 and will floor a 46 x 46 2 hole dogbox. I know because I just did my new custom built box for my black pickup. I use prairie hay in my big Owens Pro on my flatbed pickup because its not insulated. This new box is insulated, so I am excited to see how warm it stays in there this season.

I was using carpet samples from the carpet store, at a buck a piece I'd toss a few in and it worked great. Lately, I've been using some old bath towels, they seem to work fine. The dogs like them because they push them around however they want.

A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.

About anything that is cheap, absorbant, possesses a bit of insulative value, gives some padding to the nether regions, replaceable so moisture does not develop into mildew, has no part of it that a chewing dog would find toxic...I reckon that would be best found in some variety of clean, weed-free straw.
So...straw.
So...straw.

I have horse mats in the bottom of mine, in winter just add grass hay.
The second kick from a mule is of very little educational value - from Wing and Shot.

Thanks to this post, I got some good ideas and acted on one. Just bought a saddle blanket that fits in my owens like it was made for it. Saddle blanket and an old fleece blanket and my britt should be pretty comfy..

Destructive chewers and kennel slobs don't make it around here, unless they're a puppy and haven't been "Learnt" yet.
