I just got another GSP a couple of months ago. I have two now from different breeders. Physically they have some obvious differences. They are both good tempered, birdy and should be good bird dogs. Not questioning the quality of breeding, just asking for some input. The new dog (6months) has much larger "houndier" ears and she is much bulkier than my 13month old. The 13month ive been feeding about 4cups a day and cant put wweight on her - I would compare her build to a greyhoung type almost, and her ears are much smaller. I get them out a few days a week but we dont hunt all day or anything. Breeder said it could take 3years to fill out. Just seems odd that being the same breed these two traits would be so different. Are these certain bloodlines and what could this mean down the road?

Shouldn't take 3 years for a dog to fill out. Nothing wrong with the pup being small. My guess ones male ones female.

Every breeding is going to have a different outcome. Line breedings usually stay the same traits in structure example. Ears. I think your pups are normal wouldn't worry about it.

There are several "types" of shorthairs. You will get a variance even within a line or "type".

there potentially can be a huge difference in shorthairs depending on the breeding/bloodlines....You could literally have a large,tall,big boned,huge chested monster dark colored 65-70lb female short hair. Big face, long nose, long ears....You can also have a short,light boned,small chested, small head, shorter eared almost all white 30lb female short hair

Heavily bred "german" lines have a hound type look, then your danish and sweedish foundation dog's passed on a "Sleeker" type look imo.

The English side of the the GSP, has more hound, bigger huskier dogs with cat like temperments very loyal. I've had 2 females and 4 litters with 1 male in each litter being a absolute monster, 94 lbs,84lbs,78lbs, and 76lbs, lots of legs and built like 55 gallon drums that go all day. I have a 66 lbs, 2 year old female from a 55 lbs dam and 84lbs sire she is blockheaded and all legs. I like the tall,long and leggy!

Thanks for the answers...I was just curious and am very interested in the breed.The younger houdier one is from D2 SHorthairs in south TX. the sire is Uodibar's Suck it UP from Uodibar shoot the moon and Diamond S stephanie, aDixieland's Rusty, My Angel Mia, and Rusty Spur. The dam is D-Two Itsy Bitsy Dixie from Sundance hearts are wild and Long grove lucky charm, also The older scrawny dogs sire is Lewis's PrimaEvolution V Shilo from Short reeks Waco and Lewis's Gaue Getter, also Beier's Evolution, Aces Prima Banane, Wilkinson's Tink-Her. Dam is Lewis's Moesgaard Clownin Becky DJ from Clowns duke and Long Grove Lucky Charm. Clowns duke is from Rawhides Clown and Moesgaards Becky Deejay. They are both doing great so far this hunting season. The younger pup is more of a brush buster and seems to keep her head lower. While the other is big runner and keeps her head up, she is also a lot more hyper at home.

From what i've seen breeders with real good line breeding programs that have been in place for many years have a certain type/look . 95% of the dogs produced will have that look. You can pick a Friedelsheims, a Stillwater or even a Sundance dog out of a line easy. Not saying you can do the same with all breeders but the ones that been in place for a while that stick to a strick program you can for sure.
