GSP Aggresion
My 3 year old female GSP is becoming more and more aggressive to other dogs. So far absolutely no aggression to people. She used to be just intolerant of smaller dogs jumping up on her or around her but it is now progressing to all dogs.
I hate to muzzle her (not when hunting) when she is going to be around other dogs. I've done some on-line research but haven't really read anything I have confidence in. Suggestions? Thanks.

Re: GSP Aggresion
It would take some kind of a deconditioning programme and I 'm not sure that would work.
Everytime the dogs makes an aggressive move he is disciplined in some meaningful way. I wouldn't use an e collar for this as your dog could think the correction was coming from the other dog ,and attack worse.
You still wouldn't be able to trust your dog fully around other dogs. Sorry iIcouldn't be more helpful.

The origional poster here deleted all his posts, but there is some good info on here regardless with a dog in a similar situation just a bit more extreme.
Good luck and do some searches on here, there are lots of threads about this filled with good info.

Thanks folks. I did do a search on here but must have missed the post referenced. I'll take another look.
I did read some of the deconditioning info. that's available but wasn't too convinced that it would work.

Yeah I've tried that but I think it actually makes it worse.
I think it makes her feel trapped or something.
I found the other thread on this topic and will use some of the suggestions from that thread.
Thanks all for your help.

I agree in my experience a leashed dog will be more likely to have an aggressive disposition.

you are right too. i had dog that would bite if he was leashed. vet called it TERRITORIAL AGGRESSION.
he bit badly if you put your hand near his mouth.
loose in home, they will do it also.
you have dog that may not be able to be around dogs or strange people.
but i saw dogs get better on meeting dogs too but they always have that aggression in them.
i would say that you are not going to get rid of it.
drop me PM and i will give you my phone no. if you want to talk. take care

Re: GSP Aggresion
I started poking my dog in a soft spot behind her front leg when she got tense. If she even started to growl I would roll her on her back and expose her belly (basically humiliating her). Another thing that would help her begin to loosen up is forcing her to face away from the dog while the other dog sniffs her rear.
After doing all of that for a couple of weeks she stopped being aggressive and became overly playful. So to fix that I had a friend bring his slightly larger male dog over who was more mature and laid back. Everytime Roxy would approach him to run him over (Play in doggy terms) he would bow up. As long as she was semi calm and submissive he would be fine, but if she went crazy he would put her in her place.

That's the one. An Italian study on Omega 3s using German shepherds. I saw an abstract on AVMA's FB page a while back.brad27 wrote:Was it the article DocE posted on here? I found this thread and it perked my interest. I have an 8 year old female who can be real moody at times and shows no medical problems other than ups and downs emotionally. We tested hormone levels, etc...I might give this a try.

Re: GSP Aggresion
Do you have kids? Is this a German import? or from import Sire or Dam? Do you have an underground fence? Is she spayed? Has she been to a basic obedience class with other dogs? Where does the dog sleep? What is your level of experience training dogs.
