A Long Time Coming
As the title says this post has been a long time coming. We finally broke the ice and won a broke stake this weekend. Had a placement or two as well as some last minute disasters that prevented placements, but were not to be denied this weekend. We took 1st in a walking AGD stake on Saturday and 1st in a HB ALGD stake on Sunday at the trial hosted by the Sandhills Pointing Dog Club at H Cooper Black FT grounds in SC. She really dug in and did a nice job finding birds both days. It has been so dry that dogs have been struggling to find birds. It rained on and off all day Sunday, and probably helped scenting some. My scout (wife) did a good job in her first real scouting assignment but didn't have a ton of work to do. Keep watching the front and help turn her loose after a find. Mae really knows what I'm asking when I handle her which really makes things easy.
I owe a lot of folks thanks for the help along the way. Bruce Shaffer from Almost Heaven GSP's bred a great litter, helped convince me to explore FTs and has helped any time I needed it. He has trained Mae and campaigned her for me last winter and spring and after she broke his heart a few times last year he might have been just as happy as I was Sunday. Thanks again Bruce for all your help.
This dog spent a summer on the prairies in Montana with Justin Wiseman and fully believe that helped her develop her ability to go find birds when others struggle. She is a true bird dog and I enjoyed killing sharpies and huns over her in September this year. Not only that but Quintin and Justin have both helped me a great deal with handling and helped me completely change how I handle a dog and approach a FT.
Last but not least Maurice Lindley has become a good friend and helped Mae and I a ton over the past 4 years. I'm lucky he is just down the road and get to spend a lot of time working dogs with him. These guys have proven even a village can raise and idiot with a nice dog!!
Hopefully I will get to post her pic again sometime this spring.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

CONGRATS Doug, Heather and Mae(more affectionately known as "Brown Dog" and "Black Hearted B**ch")!
Yep, she broke my heart a few times, including on one occasion with maybeeeee 10 seconds to go under the watchful Judges eye of "DocO". That one earned me a swat in the back of the head with Doco's reins!!!! We were quite literally on our way into the Club house and not 200 yards from "the light at the end of the tunnel" after several really nice finds, 2 of which were out on the limb.... ughhhhhh! She really started to put it all together at the end of the Spring season and started making it into the placements and showing she "got it"!
Yep, I was probably as excited, perhaps even more so, when I got the text that she had finally come through. She is unquestionably, a "Bird Dawg", which is what often got her into trouble!
Good on ya's for not giving up on her, when she just seemed he!! bent on trying all of our patience!
Now go get those final 4 points for that AFC!
