410 Entries For The Grand
Looks like there are 410 entries for the HRC International Grand Hunting Retriever Championship for next month . ! . !
Running order is not up yet (still being worked on), but all the entries are posted on the HRC Website.

Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
I forgot to mention that a number of the dogs entered will be Pointing Labradors
Of course, PLs also run and do well in AKC Field Trials, AKC Hunt Tests, HRC Retriever Hunt Tests, HRC Upland Tests, NAHRA Field Tests ----------- ad nauseum.

No, I was talking about AKC Retriever Field Trials.Chukar12 wrote:Wow who knew...

They aren't allowed in Pointing dog Field Trials, as PLs are not a pointing breed.

Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
ahh very well,
that's what my remembrance was, but what we are calling them and your extensive endorsement had me confused.

Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
Joe, Doc laid the bait right there for ya...you sniffed it like dog, and then hiked your leg on it.....proud of ya man.
Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
My "extensive endorsement" said (many times) that PLs aren't a pointing breed.Chukar12 wrote:ahh very well,

They are a Retriever that points instead of flushes.
BTW, HRC and NAHRA do allow "pointy breeds" to run in their Retriever Tests.
.
Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
Maybe you should stop calling them Pointing labs then. Save people the confusion. Maybe use point as a verb instead of an adjective. They aren't allowed in Pointing dog Field Trials, as PLs are not a pointing breed.
Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
It is unfortunate for those owners of "pointy labs" that they will not be able to add an HRC Upland Hunting Test title to their dogs. The test designed by hunters for hunters with utter disregard to any registry or breed association.
Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
I didn't come up with the terminology.brad27 wrote:Maybe you should stop calling them Pointing labs then. Save people the confusion. Maybe use point as a verb instead of an adjective. They aren't allowed in Pointing dog Field Trials, as PLs are not a pointing breed.
I wouldn't mind at all if they were called Labs that Point.

Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
Come on over to the AF and we will take ALL the PL entries you can flood us with. Wont have a chance of winning but the entry fees wouldnt hurt.

100% BS............. AF will not allow non AF accepted breeds (of which Labs are one) to participate.

The FDSB is an all breed registry and for enough money, I bet they'd register a Pointing Schnoodle.Doc E wrote:topher40 wrote:Come on over to the AF and we will take ALL the PL entries you can flood us with

Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
That's what they say when I run my munsterlander lol.
Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
I GUARANTEE you that you are ABLE to run in AF trial. Registering with the American Field is another story. The AFTCA has no rules that you cannot run the dog. If you dont believe me I WILL take your entry right now for my fall trial. You will not receive a win certificate but you would be awarded any prize that would be awarded IF you were to place the dog.

Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
The dogs are split into 4 Flights.Vision wrote:How many days does it take to run 410 dogs?
All 4 groups run (different courses) at the same time. Two judges and one HRC Rep for each group.
The number of dogs gets considerably smaller each day (only takes ONE major goof or two minor goofs to be eliminated).
So, it's 4 days of Hunting Retriever stuff (Land -- Water -- Land --Water) and day 5 is Upland.
Last fall, 387 dogs were entered..................19 got the Grand Hunting Retriever Champion title ... You have to pass the Grand twice to get the title.
So, it takes at least 5 days to complete the Grand.
In the retriever world, it's definitely the best of the best. An average of 20% will pass the Grand.
In the AKC Master National (the AKC equivalent of the HRC Grand) the pass rate is about 50%.

Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
It is not difficult to record your wins. Win enough and people will notice. There would be nothing stopping another registry from recording your wins in aftca, just fdsb may or may not do it.
Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
Send your money with a copy of your AKC registration certificate and the American Field will register your dog - they are an all breed registry. Don't know who you are trying to BS Doc E.Doc E wrote:ezzy333 wrote:Would you like to apologize ?Doc E wrote:

The AFTCA rules for acquiring a win certificate say nothing at all about breed, only that the dog needs an FDSB registration number.

I still havent heard from you concerning your entry in my trial this fall. Maybe I should have included my number, 785-288-0461. The details arent all ironed out as of yet and the ad hasnt appeared in the field so I understand that you may have been waiting to see the ad to enter. I will give you a quick rundown of the present information:
The Brown County Field Trial Club (ks) will be hosting the 2nd Annual "Cara Kroll Memorial Walking Shooting Dog Classic" to be held in Oct/Nev of 2013 just outside of Fairview Ks. Accompanying stakes will be the walking derby, walking puppy( if time allows), gun dog stake (time allowing). Entry fee of 80.00 for the Shooting dog. Sponsors include Farm-Tek, Gundogsupply.com, CEK kennels/Gamebirds, Nutrisource pet foods. Please call entries to Chris E. Kroll @ 785-288-0461. Judges to be announced
Call me on my BS and I will take your entry. Even better I will let you run

Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
Its a one hour continuous course trial with a good number of wild birds supplemented by pen raised. Not to mention a classic and counts more for dog of the year points.

When "this fall".Will be hunting here starting SEP 1 and will be at the Fall grand (in Iowa) a couple weks in October.
Then it's back to pure hunting thru the last weekend of JAN.
Other than the Grand, we do not do any testing/trialing during hunting season.
.
Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
October or November, let me know what weekend works best for you and I will put in a request for those dates.

Hunting season for us is SEP 1 thru the last weekend of JAN.
So, NO WEEKEND during SEP - OCT - NOV - DEC - JAN will work.
Yes, we have 5 full months of hunting out here.
.
Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
You dont have to come to my trial, I am sure some of the other clubs would let you run. Try ANY weekend in Feb-May in the spring. Your bluff has been called so dont hide behind a schedule full of hunting.

Define what a major goof is, and what a minor goof is for me please?
How many people are at events like this?
Re: 410 Entries For The Grand
There are 410 dogs entered. Many of them will be handled by Pros. A person (pro) can enter as many as 12 dogs. Most have fewer than that. I'd say the average pro will have 5 dogs to run. So as far as people (not counting observors) running dogs, probably 85% - 90% will be pros. the rest will be amateurs.Vision wrote:Doc E wrote:(only takes ONE major goof or two minor goofs to be eliminated)Vision wrote:How many days does it take to run 410 dogs?

There are many "goofs".
The rules at the Grand are much tougher than a weekend Test
So these are just a couple examples.
Minor : From the time you leave from the holding blind, you can only say "HEEL" once
When you get to the line, you can only say "SIT" once.
When the birds go down, your dog creeps out a couple feet.
Major : The dog breaks when the birds go down
The "honor dog" interferes with the "working dog"
On a Blind Retrieve, the dog blows you off more than twice
On Marked Retrieves, you have to handle the dog to a Fall on more than one bird (there will be at least 14 birds to retrieve in the first 4 days)
The dog 'switches' on the Diversion Bird
The dog establishes a hunt on one bird --- then leaves the area and picks up a different bird.
Gobs and Gobs of things that will eliminate a dog...... Or handler, because Gun Safety is scored as stringently as the dog work.
There's good reason that it's called "The Grand".
