nice. I love morels
Re: Hunt of a different sort
Has anyone trained their dog to sniff out morels? Is it even possible?
Re: Hunt of a different sort
Yum! My brother found a bunch this year. We took some of the bigger ones and stuffed with a mix of crab, shrimp, green onion & cream cheese then breaded and fried.
Re: Hunt of a different sort
I would think you could train a dog to find them..why not? Dog would be worth a ton of money I would suspect. Morels go for between 15-30 bucks a pound here.

Gorgeous!! I took a walk this morning and found a bunch of False Morels, I find them delicious too! Some people get deathly sick from the wrong ones but I don't . I had a US Forest service gal with me the one time, same area and she could eat them but her hubby would get sick!

Never knew anyone who trained a dog to find them, but my dad had a washed out Irish setter who would go to eating and once you shewwed her away you could count on finding a few she left behind.
We found enough for 2-3 good batches of fried mushrooms this spring but didnt get much time to look.

A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.
