I just left that field after 6 yrs... Will never do it again. Also don't feel the same way (that its worth it). Where I worked it was already too late - nothing you did made a difference. You just managed them until they were old enough to be kicked back out into society (to then go back into the system via jail).

Cass, your experience is unfortunate. And there are some cases like that, but we also see a lot of successful kids here, hence it being worth it.

I am a special ed teacher in a classroom at Boys and Girls Town. I work with emotionally disturbed teens. It is too late for many, and maybe most, but occasionally there is one that could turn around IF therapist, guardian, parent or foster parent, and teacher all do their jobs right. That's why I'm still there. And spent 22 years with Uncle Sam as a combat engineer (sapper).
If the dogs make you nervous, I can shut you in the back room.

I used to work at a fab shop that was the local 538 pipe fitters union. I wasn't on the union side but would have been if given the chance they had GREAT benefits and when it shut down they walked out the gate with a job the next day.

I own a Manufacturer's rep firm... Basically I am an independent sales person for companies. Most of the products I sell go into automobiles. I am happy to say I sell only products made in the USA. Pretty tough to do these days... I also design and sell some process equipment used in the chemical, mining and food industries.

I'm an engineer that owns a small business that does innovative research for the Department of Defense.

The wife, who is also into hunting dogs, is an attorney in the entertainment industry and doesn't let me forget the irony that my business is smart weapons when my dumb weapon misses a duck at 25 yards.
