Thanks Ted! Not sure if his tail will straighten out as he matures, but even so, I love how he carries it as well as his personality. If I do not screw him up, I'm thinking he will be a great one! :)

Something really nice about short tailed dog's, their tail seldom makes them look bad. Until that tail get's below level, if the dog is wired up, it looks great. Even the one's that sycel a bit look good. The same on long tailed dogs just doesn't do it.

Got the dogs in the woods this weekend to look for some grouse and woodcock. My setter found 4 birds (2 grouse and two woodcock) in just over an hour and had great manners on all 4.

From this morning in very wet conditions. It went from light rain to mist, to heavy rain and everywhere in between. I was only able to get a few pictures and video due to the weather, but bird action was plentiful for all the dogs including my lab.

All three pointing dogs hit scent about the same time. It was a woodcock. My lab is out of view healing at my side.
Image

A video of one of the woodcock my setter pointed. I will need to work on style after the flush.

This was the point I walked up on.
Image

I couldn't find the bird so I relocated her twice. On the second relocate all she did take on step and look down. I kicked the grass below her and still couldn't find anything so I figured the bird must have moved on so I tried to get her to move on, but she wouldn't leave point...

... I bent over and checked the ground closely and ended up finding this:

A closer look.

This was not a young grouse and was not on a nest or chicks. It just didn't want to flush.

Tell me more about stubble quail? I spent 2 weeks in Australia touring around and it is beautiful country. So many acres of ag land that could become a bird hunters paradise
